Thyroids can and do grow back. I had surgery
almost 30 years ago and I am going to have it again. I have rejected RAI because I think that
I could endanger the people with whom I come into contact with. Please I don’t want to hear how perfectly safe it is. It may be for the people who have it done. When you see
    under what circumstances it is
administered, one begins to wander just how safe it is. I don’t want to expose anyone else
to any thyroid problems. Even so after reading on this BB some of the problems been with RAI I don’t think that it is an option for me.
Maybe we should give our endos math tests before we let them fool around with radiation. Susan

    Susan,

I am thinking of opting for surgery instead of RAI. I am worried about the symptoms I may experience with RAI and any long term effects. It comes down to the knife or radiation. The more I think about it, I want the knife to get this thyroid out of my body. My endo. says I am a perfect candidate for RAI. I worry about hair loss, weight gain, and other post RAI symptoms. Did you have any of the symptoms I mention after your surgery? I am 32. Single. No kids yet. And I don’t want to worry about this thyroid in the future. Although I am only borderline hyperthyroid, I am seriously thinking about surgery. What are your thoughts?

Thank you for your reply Susan.
