After my RAI in April, I had the same symptoms – swelling, weight gain, huge periods, sore joints, depression, forgetfullness……I’ve recently eliminated sugar from my diet (Sugar Buster’s Plan), including rice, potatoes, white bread, beer, etc. I can’t believe how much better I feel. I still don’t have as much energy as I’d like, and have trouble exercising.
Also, I’ve been taking St. John’s Wort for about three months. I don’t know – it could be the synthroid, but I DO feel better, and not so depressed.

I have a strange sounding question. Lately I’ve been feeling like I’m pregnant although I know I’m not. I had a whopper of a period two weeks ago (with PMS) thanks to being hypo now due to RAI. My joints have been swelling – lately I’ve been having problems getting my rings on – and I never had that when I was pregnant. What I did have was waking up with aching knees. Now I’ve gained a few pounds from being hypo – but not that much. My other symptoms include being really clumsy – today I spilled what must have been the third drink in the last week at my desk. Also I’m getting a bit of a pot belly (stomach crunches here I come?).
Is all this part of being hypo? I’m only taking one pill of S— a day so far. I do back in a couple of weeks to the endo for another blood test and check-up so perhaps I just need to increase my dosage.
Now I also had a sinus infection which took a month to get over and I was feeling really depressed – but I know that is normal hypo-type symptoms.
But what about the other symptoms?
Thanks for any insight anyone can give me.
Emily

I am SOOO happy to see you all again – I’ve really mised you!
Especially since my thyroid panels showed my TSH was up to 33 because the endo didn’t want to start me on more than one hormone pill a day after RAI.
Well, now I’m up to 100 mg a day and hopefully will start to rejoin the land of the living.
As an example – before the LAST time we went down I wrote down Jake’s e-mail addy – but threw the piece of paper away! Major brain fog – so I couldn’t even get
a hold of anybody!Anonymous

sensation in your throat? Almost like Acid Reflux.
I guess it could be AR but I was just wondering if
anyone else might have experienced this and if it
could somehow be related to Graves. Any comments?Anonymous

January 16, 1999 at 6:50 pmPost count: 93172Yes! And the tongue. Tums helped and staying away from acidy, spicy foods and wine, too. I don’t know what it’s from – never asked, but it would come and go.
Could be the meds, RAI reaction, or just this disease showing itself in one of its many strange ways. I haven’t had a problem with it in about 6 months. If you get an explanation for it – please let me know. -
