      Hi,
Does anyone know with graves if you can be a Bone Marrow Donor?? I just received a call from one of my closest friends husband and my best friend of 20 years was just diagnosed with leukemia. Without a suitable match she may not make it. I will contact my endo tommorow to find out but meanwhile I thought i would pose this question to the board. Please keep
Sue and her three beautiful children in your prayers.

        Dee–

I tried to register as a bone marrow donor and was rejected because of Graves’ Disease. My endocrinologist said that was ridiculous; of course GD does not affect bone marrow, and besides people who need such a transplant are facing worse things (yes, they exist) than GD. I would have thought that they would have been glad to take a blood sample to type me with and then let the potential recipient decide for himself whether he wanted to take the “risk”. It’s hard to find a good match.

Anyway, you might try anyway–I might have gotten a particularly fussy screener. Just don’t be surprised if you are rejected.
