I also had bad days after RAI. I am now 11 weeks post and things are settling down. Even though I was also on PTU some days were awful. My doctor said it was due to leakage of hormone as the thyroid cells were dying. I finally have a normal TSH; first time in two years. However, I still get up each morning wondering what the day will bring.

sporadic throughout the day and night.I would feel pretty good for portions of the day and then the shakes and tremors would start. So, since it was not constant to me this was an improvement.Today though, is a REAL BAD DAY. I feel like my brain is in a BIG FOG.
I find I cannot think clearly, the shakes and tremors are real bad today,I can’t seem to hold on to anything, it just falls out of my hands. I feel weak, faint and very tired. I was out driving and had to pull over to the side of the road for a while.
My questions is: Is this caused by the Graves, the RAI or could I be going into a HYPO state. Anyone with any answers please comment.
Thanks,Caren

The last week or so I have been CRAZY, things come out of my mouth before I even think about it. I am very nervous and tired again. Would like comments regarding second RAI and length of time to start feeling better. I really am starting to dislike myself, even my wonderfully supportive husband is starting to loose it. I keep trying to look on the bright side, but lately it seems so far off. Thanks for letting me ramble. Idaellie

My doctor was watching my TSH and T4 free, periodically and I continually went from low TSH (0.01-14) to high TSH’s for nearly the year. When my doctor suggested a second RAI, I decided to go for another opinion. I also had never been on more than .75 of the synthroid and would go back and forth between the .75 and .050 with this doctor, according to what my TSH levels were. I was also very tired either way I went (I had more of apathetic hypertyroidism) My new doctor decided to do a suppression test and try me on .88 for a week and then .125 for 2 weeks and follow up with another uptake scan (just the 24 hr one)to see if I still had any thyroid activity. Anyway, I just completed it last week and met with my new doctor again. I started feeling much better the second week of the higher dose and even better now. I stay up much later at night, have even baked some cakes for work this week and last week and overall I just feel so much better. The results of the uptake scan actually showed I had barely .5% activity in my thyroid, so there was no need to do another RAI. I feel my new doctor is more into treating the symptoms rather than just the numbers. I am going to stay on the .125 for now and check in a couple months. There is hope after all. Maybe your doctor can check you with the uptake scan before doing a second RAI. Let me know how you make out. I am happy this worked out for me, but maybe it isn’t for everyone. Good Luck!!!!!!!
