First time poster here. In my attempt to learn more about my autoimmune disease (hypo), which I was diagnosed with back in 2002, and a newer symptom of extreme pain in the right eye….I have stumbled onto this wonderful site. It is so nice to know I am not alone nor crazy. As I am accustomed to my symptoms of having hypothyroidism/Hashimotos, but 4 years ago a new issue arose. Excruciating pain/pressure behind my right eye along with double vision. For the past 4 years I have seen countless ophthalmologists, nero-opthamologists, neurologists, functional doctors, nutritionist and on and on attempting to diagnose the pain. Many many ER visits, botched LPs, sinus surgery, hospital stays, and MRIs later, I have been cleared neurologically.

I am just starting to do my own research now on the possibilities this may be TED related pain. I am wondering (after reading many historical posts here) if anyone else has experienced the same as I, pain so intense and chronic (coupled with double vision) that most specialist wave it off as one type or other of a chronic migraine?

I appreciate any insight.

Hello and welcome – we are fellow patients here and can’t make a diagnosis for you, but I *can* tell you that it is possible to have eye involvement with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. An experienced ophthalmologist can help get you diagnosed correctly. These links will hopefully help you find someone near you:
