Barb, I had hair trouble when I had eye radiation. It really thinned out and was very fragile. It took a couple of months, but it came around. In March this year I had RAI and about six weeks later my hair might as well fall out. There is not much of it and it won’t take color or a perm or even gentle gel persuasion. I gave up and got a very short haircut and hope it rebounds again. Meantime the skin on my scalp is so itchy it is driving me nuts. Doctor prescribed a medicated shampoo, run in, leave on, rinse out. Can’t say I think it is doing much, but maybe it would be worse if I didn’t use it. The unnerving part was when I saw 6 refills. Apparently he thinks this will be a problem for a while. My arms are also very dry and skin cracking, but the rest of me seems okay so far.

what the info was. I know the Dr always asks about changes in my hair,
but I have never had any to speak of. Now it seems as though I am
losing more than Mother Nature intended. Seems kind of late in the game
for a new symptom. Any thoughts or experiences?

AnonymousMarch 26, 2000 at 2:21 pmPost count: 93172Yes, hair loss is a symptom of either hyper or hypothyroidism, or changes in thyroid levels. I didn’t lose hair while hyper, though many people do. Mine started when I went hypo following RAI, and continued for more than three years while my thyroid slowly died out more, requiring continued upward adjustments in replacement hormone. (It grew back in, so I’ve had short hairs of all different lengths growing in among my long hairs.)
The excess hair loss continued for a year after I was stabilized on Armour, and then I finally had a few months with normal hair loss. The excess hair loss started in again recently along with some new hypo symptoms. What a pain!

I had a lot of hair breakage as well…small pieces breaking off – and I don’t even use a hair brush, just a wide tooth pick!!

I am on tapazole for five months now. However, I am suffering from bad hair loss. i have bald spots the size of an old fifty cents coin.
I went for the injection to spot the hair loss. However, i am getting the bald spots from a different area.
Am I the only one?
I am still hyper. I don’t understand.
My endo tells me that it will grow back after a few months. I cannot spot feeling bad when I see the changes.?
Please advise . -
