To Mary P.I’ve written many a post regarding early radiation treatments to the eyes. I feel it saved me years of suffering. Radiation to the eyes stops the eyes from getting worse when caught in the early stages before there is alot of scaring to the muscles and before the inflamation to the muscles start to cause swelling which pushes the eyes out and makes the lids retract and often caused double vision. It is NOT a cure. It does, in most cases, stop the eyes from progressing, no matter at what stage of the “hot phase.” They used to use this when the eyes were in such bad shape the optic nerve was in danger. A few Docs realized that if it worked then, why not do it early on and prevent the eyes from getting worse. My Doc realized, when documenting her files, that the patients who had radiation, had files 1/2 the size of the ones who did not get radiaton. I find, the most serious problem about radiation to the eyes, is finding a GOOD radiologist.I had a very positive experience in every way. My eyes are on the mend. I was only a week or so away from “the bulge.” Radiation stop it immediately. The eyes started to moved back into place as the muscles healed, saving me from that surgery. The eyelid retraction was so slight, that my surgeon could do an easy surgery for the lid in her office. The double vision is still getting better on it’s own. We are hoping that in a few months it will return to normal. If that should not happen, the surgery to correct it will be very simple. Anyone interested in more info, please Email me. I will be glad to help in any way……Gwen (Hart2D@aol.com)
