Hi friends; I have a friend who has just been diagnosed with Grave’s Disease. He has almost lost the sight in one eye and is now losing it in the other. He is naturally depressed and worried. Doctors are slow and seemingly not very knowledgeable. Can anyone help with immediate ideas about arresting or reversing the eye damage/impending blindness? Medications, thoroughly knowledgeable specialists, holistic approaches, ANYTHING that might save this man’s sight. (He is only 77 years old). Time is obviously important, thank you for any help. mike.

Hi Mike. I too lost most of my sight due to the Graves’ disease but it has now returned to almost normal. The standard procedure for treating this is usually Steroids at first to reduce the swelling and improve sight, next is orbital irradiation to attempt to stop the progression of nerve damage, and finally as a last resort, orbital decompression surgery.

I have no idea of the implications of his age with the treatments but hopefully he is under the care of a good Ophthalmologist.
