I have been diagnosed with GD for two years. I have had 2 radiation treatments and am currently on 8 PTU pills per day. During all this time my doctor has never asked me if I drink, nor has he advised me not to take any type of medications containing alcohol. If anyone has any information on drinking alcohol or alcohol medications and the effects with Grave’s disease?

Hi Dana! Check my post on 1-11-97 concerning thyroxine and alcohol. As far as Synthroid and other thyroid replacement drugs, there are no restrictions on having alcoholic beverages. I don’t know about other medications – definitely ask your doctor or pharmacist before going to Happy Hour!
