Hi my name is Shari. I am new to the BB. I was diagnosed with Graves in 1990. RAI in 1991. I guess you could say I’ve struggled with being on the HYPO side ever since. My problems got worse when I switched to a HMO a couple of years back. It’s like pulling teeth trying to get them to regularly test you. After TWO YEARS they finally allowed me to see an actual Endo when I started to test for hypoglycemia. This endo tells me that this might be the start of diabetes. This really makes no sense to me. It (diabetes) doesn’t run in my family, although Graves remarkably high. He further went on to say that they are all related, due to the fact that they are all autoimmune disorders. Someone, please explain this in plain english. Also, one more question… is it commonplace to have symtoms of being hyper (ie: rapid heart rate, palps, etc)and test HYPO (tsh of 12)? All along this whole graves battle, I have never had the “classic symtoms”. When I was first dianosed, and before the RAI, I had managed to gain 65+ pounds. I thought you were supposed to lose weight. And after the RAI, when you are supposed to gain weight, I lost 45 pounds. I buy books on the Thyroid, and they seem to tell you what to expect, although my body seems to say “WHOA, we are going to set a new trend”. It’s all very frustrating. Any comments anyone?
