Today is my anniversary…sort of. It was one year ago today that I was in the cardiac unit of the hospital with atrail fibrillation and the dr. came in and said, “We have a reason. It is your thyroid!” The actual diagnosis for Graves’ came a couple of days later. Odd as this may sound, those words were tremendous relief to me because that was when I realized that I wasn’t crazy, and there was a REASON for all the weird symptoms that had been going on for the previous 6 months. What I really wanted to say to the dr. was, “I told you so!”
Little did I know what was in store for me! LOL The GOOD news is that after a year on ATDs, I generally feel great! Thanks to this bulletin board, the Wed. night chat, the NGDF conference, and all the wonderful people associated with those items, I have learned so much, and met some wonderful people. I have also learned a lot about life, myself and life with illness. Guess I could sum it up by saying that I have learned to take time to stop and smell the roses.
I am a big believer in “everything happens for a reason…” I don’t know why I got Graves, or just what God has in store for me in the future, but I do know that with faith, hope, and love, anything is possible. Maybe getting Graves’ helped remind me of that.
