I have experienced heartburn with each flare of the hyperthyroidism. My heartburn is related to a wheat allergy (verified by an allergist).
I’ve noticed that GD is often listed as an illness that many people with celiac disease (gluten intolerance) have. But, I have seen very few references to people with GD who have a wheat allergy or celiac disease. This thread is the first reference I’ve seen.
I take Pepcid, Tums and Pepto Bismal to calm the most severe episodes. I also sleep with the head of my bed elevated.

My heartburn usually disappears when my thyroid levels are normal (unless I eat wheat.)

I would very much like to hear from anyone else who has the wheat allergy or celiac disease in conjunction with the GD.

Has anyone out there had gastro intestinal reflux disease (GIRD) for a year or two before Graves was diagnosed? I was diagnosed with this after two yrs pain and not being able to eat. I even had gall bladder surgery and was dumb enough to believe this GIRD was due to my gall bladder, but it was still there. It continued on for two years and stopped suddenly as suddenly as it came, and for around 6 months it was great. Then symptoms of graves started and went on until I was diagnosed. So what do you think all you out there in GRAVES land! Any similar stories. I’m always trying to find a reason, what if I’d found out sooner before all the damage, what if, what if! I guess that’s my problem, don’t try to find any reasoning behind this.
