Seems to me that when the need is there to have the decompression, it’s a good choice. I haven’t heard anyone yet say they’ve had it and were sorry!
Are you feeling better yet back on thyroid replacement?
Please let us know the results of your scan and your decision!
Love, Dianne N
AnonymousMarch 30, 1997 at 1:03 amPost count: 93172I am scheduled to have a second CAT scan this coming Friday on my eyes the purpose of which is to determine if there is visible compression of the optic nerves from my Graves eye problems. My opthalmologist is finding increasing evidence that the optic nerves are now significantly compressed. If this can be verified on the scan, he wants to do orbital decompressions week after next. The only other choice he’s given me is to try a six week course of chemotherapy ( not steroids; chemo) to try and arrest the compression. This is a no choice-choice so far as I’m concerned. The chemo cure I’m sure will be far worse than the disease in terms of side-effects. I’m feeling pretty down about these prospects. I’m not sure what to do. Anyone have any feedback?

AnonymousMarch 30, 1997 at 2:25 amPost count: 93172Dear Luci-
I have been through both of the options you are speaking of
and then some. The chemo i was given was Cytoxin or(cyclophosphmide)
I received 750mg, by IV, every 21 days for 6 months. It is not on my
top 10 list, nor is it the worst thing I have every experienced in life.
I have also had both eyes decompressed and 7 lid surgerys. If I can help
you in ANYWAY, please feel free to e-mail me or post and I will answer.Jennifer
