AnonymousAugust 23, 1997 at 4:47 amPost count: 93172Alot of this has nothing to do with Graves but I want to vent!!! I am rather upset with people who are clueless about other people! I have been told by people who breastfeed that I should be doing it too. Someone on another website yelled at all the bottlefeeding mothers and informed us of the WABA website, which is about how breastfeeding is the “right” thing for EVERYONE! I am tired of people judging me; I am sory, but I need to take 400 mg/PTU a day. It passes through breastmilk and I would prefer my son not to have to ingest it. Why can people not understand? I am also fed up with people being rude about the fact that I am a mother. I am 20, and yes, I do look young, but people can be so damn rude! Twice in one week this has happened. One woman asked me why I did not give my child up for adoption since I am a single parent and children were not meant to be brought up by just one parent. Another lady in the store said, “Oh, what a cute baby! It is a shame God gave him to you, though, your being so young,
and with all those good people out there wanting to adopt.” I was about to burst; how dare she say that? I am a wonderful mother and I chose to keep my child because I love him! Sorry, but I had to vent about this, even though it really isn’t all about Graves…Robin
AnonymousAugust 23, 1997 at 12:21 pmPost count: 93172Dear Robin,
I may be soon faced with this problem as well. I am euthyroid as of now and I have 5 weeks left of my preg. The doc says six weeks after the baby is born I will probable have to go back on ptu as well. I breastfed my son until he stopped at nine months and I was “Mrs. La Leche” herself. I was on 400 mg. of PTU while preg and it caused my baby to have a goiter. They say it is even more harmful when secreted in your milk….so you are doing what is right for your baby!!! You are giving your baby the best that you can. If you are supposed to take the Ptu and you don’t so you can nurse the baby will not get the nutrients it needs anyways!!! Don’t worry about those women that put you down. You may just say to them ” you are very fortunate to nurse, I am however doing the very best for MY BABY in MY SITUATION!!!! Please keep in touch with me as your wisdom, and support. Remember you are doing the right thing!!!!! -
