I have no family history of Graves’, but my younger sister has had hypothyroidism for a few years, now that I think about it. Say, I drank rat poison (arsenic) when I was a baby and almost died. I wonder if that messed up my system? Just joking, I’m sure. But I really did drink arsenic that was in the garage. Daddy wasn’t watching me like he was supposed to. Of course, now five kids later, I’m worried that one of them may develop Graves’ later; especially my 9 year old daughter.

    Take care,

I am the only confirmed case of GD in my family. However, autoimmune disorders run strongly. I have had my bro and mom check their thyroid out since I was diagnosed…their levels both came back within the labs normal range but they are having lots of the same symtoms that I have. So, not sure there.
I smoke and have always been around smokers…my whole family smokes…some of them have quit over the yrs but most still smoke.

Nobody else in my family has Grave’s. My mother had thyroiditis (not Hashimoto’s) after a strep infection. She took steroids to fix her thyroid. She also has rheumatory arthritis which is an auto-immune disease. Her father’s side of the family had a lot of diabetes.
