Hello,
I just went to my eye doctor on Tues. because I thought my vision had worsened and I needed a stronger prescription. I was surprised to find out that my eyesight had improved and that my prescription was actually too strong which was causing headaches. My vision went from 20/350 in my right eye to 20/250 and my vision in my left eye went from 20/150 to 20/100. I got new glasses yesterday and now I see perfectly and no headaches so far. I saw fine with my old glasses up until a month ago. My doctor thought it was because the pressure in my eyes has gone down.
My eyes defintely feel better as a whole. A few weeks ago they were very swollen and quite dry. After being on PTU for 3 weeks I feel great. I’m not sure if the drug helped my eyes or if I’m just lucky that the symptoms didn’t last too long this time.Shannon
Hi all,
I was just wondering if any of you have eyesight like mine. I am farsighted in my right eye, and nearsighted in the left. It has been this way since I started welding, but, that is also when I first lost my voice for a month, and had TSH test including T3 and T4, all I was told at the time was I wasn’t hypo, but now know I was subclinically hyper back then, and don’t know which one to attribute it to.
Also, I have read the posts about expothma…(sp?), because I have dark rings under eyes with puffiness, but my eyes are squinty, they are always red, and when I wake in the morning, they feel like I have had them closed so very tight while sleeping and was curious to know if anyone has had similar symptoms? oh, also kinda ithcy at the end of the day, if I rub, they burn.
I also checked the posts about yawning, but didn’t find anything helpful. I wanted to know if my excess yawning is because of shortness of breath, or from medications (prozac, PTU, and atenolol)
Thanks for being here, ( I must still be hyper as I am still up and have to work tomorrow—oops! today)
I’m wondering if the bulging eyes and the double vision that I get looking to the side, or up and down will go away after a while. I was diagnosed 2 1/2 months ago with Graves, and had RAI about 6 weeks ago. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks, Dick
Hi,
You did not say if you are taking replacement hormone yet or not, but at this stage in the game it is hard to say anything certain about your eyes. I noticed that when my thyroid levels were off my eyes were wacked out, but improved when my levels were closes to noraml. But no matter what is going on you really need to see an eye disease doctor, called an ophthamologist. They can give you a thorough exam and the answers to your questions that you need. Please don’t delay, do it as soon as possible. I had an appointment with one about six months after having RAI and he greatly eased some fears I had. I have another appointment with him in about two weeks, just to check and make sure everything is okay.
~JoniHi Joni,
No, I am not on any replacement hormone yet, I’m due to see my Endo on the 8th, for blood tests and an evaluation. I have however, been seeing a very good opthamolgist right from the start. In fact, it was he, who saw my problem as a thyroid issue. I saw two other Doctors previously that didn’t even give it a thought. He’s got me on an eye drop called Lotemax that seems to be helping somewhat. I know it’s a very small dose of steroids, but it does seem to be keeping the swelling down when they start to bulge. The one thing that he’s concerned with is my eye pressure. Apparently, not related to my Graves, perhaps, is that I may be at risk for Glaucoma, so he’s watching the pressure of my eyes very closely. This may make it a little more difficult to treat, if I do indeed have a big problem with the eye disease, as the stronger steroids could cause the eye pressure to increase.
Thanks for the letter, I hope everything goes well with the rest of your treatment.
