      Hi All,

Had a quick question as I just read that taking hormone replacement may interfer with TSH, has anyone heard this before? I just started on a low doseage of estrogeon and am still going in every 90 days post RAI for TSH.
      Any response appreciated.

      Blessings,
      Sally

Estrogens bind somehow and cause a reduction in free thyroxine.
An adjustment to thyroid dosage (assuming you are now on thyroid hormone replacement) may be needed when estrogen therapy is added or discontinued, or estrogen dosage is changed.

I am on a low dosage birth control pill and on Synthroid. It isn’t a problem as long as it stays consistent.

Went through menopause in 1994 and was diagnosed with Graves in 1998.
Never gave Estrogen a thought, even though I knew I should (I hate pills!!).
When Dr. put me on Synthroid (.175mcg now) she also gave me an Estrogen supplement – Evista (generic) tab (.60mg).
I have had no side effects from the two and my levels are pretty well, where they should be.
I guess it helps when your Dr. is female and also a Graves patient. It makes it so much easier to talk to. She understands everything I’m going through.
Last month when I saw her, she said, “If all my patients were like you, I wouldn’t have to worry about having any patients at all..”
I guess I’m one of the lucky ones.
          Good luck to you.
          Sheila
