I have heard a number of testimonials of people who find their doctors unwilling to address their symptoms (of hypo- or hyperthyroidism)
because their lab tests are “within normal limits.” My wife, however, has the opposite problem: Her thyroid function tests continue to
run extremely high, despite a course of PTU, followed by Tapazole, followed by RAI (at high dose). In the meantime, her palpitations,
jitteriness, insomnia, and diarrhea have resolved, and her periods have returned. She hasn’t felt so good for several years, but her
endocrinologists are imploring her to repeat RAI. Any folks out there who have chosen to ignore the tests and follow symptoms? Any
bad outcomes (cardiac or osteoporosis)? Thanks for your consideration.
