I think that the FDA Report was sort of a non-event in the light of the fact that I’ve been reading about the individual recalls on batches of every kind of thyroid replacement, including armour, synthroid, levothroid, etc. for years. I’ve even been posting about the recalls thinking that everyone would realize the implications. The FDA Report is the result of a trend spotter noticing that there is absolutely no proper monitoring of dosage prior to releasing the pills for sale. Somehow I think that three years is a bit long to deal with the problem — I believe that given the proper incentive, the drug companies could correct the situation within a year.
Also, since Colleen brought up the question of more than a one month supply of thyroid replacement pills: I now get a 60 day supply and it’s fine. The pharmacist used to tell me that I could only get 1 mo. supply at a time, but someone at the HMO blurted out that I am actually entitled to twice as many pills for the same co-payment. That’s a real savings. You may want to inquire.
