You are not alone and certainly, not crazy!
      Many graves patients take anti-depressants.
Nothing to be ashammed of either. Helps get you through the tough periods. Ask you doc about putting you on some, jst a mild one.
      It definately helps!

        hi everyone-

You have your up days and your down days, and this is one of those down days…

A friend of mine called yesterday, concerned that I hadn’t been out and about with the gang for quite some time. I never really thought about it, but I have been shutting myself off from friends, family, and co-workers. None of them understand what I feel like. Most think I should be on anti-depressants rather than anti-thyroid drugs. I’ve been told by my doctor that my anxiety and moods should be more under control with the meds, but how long is this going to take? I know there are so many people with worse symptoms and more difficult situations, but I really feel like my life is just slipping away and I just sit here idle and brood.

I’d really hate to go on anti-depressants but if they can get me out of this black hole, maybe I’ll look into them. Any input? Am I wacko for thinking of taking anti-thyroids and anti-depressants? Thanks for being here, and letting me ramble.

          Dear Scooter
Well,if your off your stick thinking about taking anti-depresents I must really be far gone as I have taken anti-depresents for about 3 years now and its the best thing I have ever done for myself and I was feeling just like yourself before I started them. I take zoloft and if I didn’t I would be in bed away from the world, not even coming out to eat, been there and did that,so good luck in your choices.

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one feeling the way you do. Why is it that depression is only considered a symptom of hypothyroidism, not hyperthyroidism? I’ve seen described anxiety or nervousness described, but not depression. Depression tends to run in my family anyway. I’ve been having a rough run of it lately too. I’m wondering if my levels are back up, six months ago the endo halved my PTU amount. I go back next week for another check-up and I won’t be surprised if I have to get the amount back up again. To top it all, I’m having some relationship problems at work and just found out yesterday I didn’t get a job I interviewed for. I hope things get better for you real fast!

By all means… do it. I have the same problem on the anti thyroid drugs. I am on a mild anti-depressant. I feel much better now.

I will give it a try and see what happens. Thanks for the tip.
