Has anyone had these injections for the muscles of the eyes?? Also, do you know if this treatment can replace muscle surgery?? Is the risk of infection of these treatments great? Also did you receive a local anesthetic before treatment? I am interested in specifically: the medial rectus muscle. Any information on this is really appreciated!

I have had Botox (botulism toxin) injections instead of strabismus
surgery. In my case, it has worked wonderfully. Please see my last
post. Yes, local anesthetic is used. I have talked extensively
with another Botox patient, who has had the treatment many times
and it is always easy for her. I also observed a 70-year old man
receive the injections with no problem. I seem to be immune to the
anesthetic. It didn’t work for me. My husband helped my doctor
get the injections in. It was extremely unpleasant for me. But the
long-term benefit has been worth that one day of pain. My ophthalmogist
assures me that if we decide I ever need Botox injections again,
he will do it under a quick general anesthetic. My muscle constriction
was caught fairly early, and that is why my doctor thinks the treatment
has been so successful. My friend who has had to have many Botox
treatments had severe double vision to start with.

Then after my 3rd strabismus surgery, when my double vision was less but still present some, the bo-tox was used again and brought my vision together. For the last 8 months I have had very good single vision, with only a slight ddvv, when my eyes are tired and I am looking down.

Too bad it didn’t work enough the first time. Your experience with
the later try is a lot like mine. I still have some minor double
vision when looking down or up or far to either side. I can sure
live with this.Where did you have your Botox injections? I was at UCSD.
