is this somthing that you would recommend for someone who is in their 30s. I’m 31 and will be most likely starting replacement hormone somtime this year. It worries me b/c the tyroid’s role in calcium regulation is to excrete calcitonin which inhibits osteoclast activity in bone. Every doctor I have talked to does not advocate supplimenting calcitonin in the diet after RAI or surgery and this really confuses me. A vital part of our “system” is being removed, it’s like taking the carborator from the car. How can our bodies be as close to what “normal” functioning is when this is not supplemented? In my case, osteoporosis already runs in my family. My grandmother broke her hip (actually) femur, in her late 50s. Granted, I don’t smoke and have been supplementing calcium for years now, and have been lifting weights since age 23. But still, I want to take every precaution possible now while I am young instead of down the road when I’m told after a bone scan in my 50s that I need to have a calcitonin supplement. Any advice? Thanks much.
