Em,
I found your post very interesting. I was diagnosed with mild Graves last January, but the docs now think it may be something else, as I got better without treatment. With all of the tests they’ve done the past several months, the only thing I’ve noticed that seems to correspond to how I feel is the antibody levels. Of course, I don’t have enough data to draw any conclusions at this point, but the T3, T4 levels definitely don’t seem to have any effect on how I feel. Also, I had my adrenal levels checked, but it was a simple fasting blood test. My mother’s doctor told me that she definitely had a hypoadrenal problem, so it is a possibility for me. I would like to know more about the urine test, if you have more information.

Why, even though I had the eye disease and am Euthyroid, did I continue to be sick and even have many of the thyroid symptoms such as high heart rate, temperature intollerance, etc, etc. I have heard no answers for this other than “there is a lot we don’t know about this disease.”

has come to my attention that many people that still do not feel well after treatment and been on synthyroid for a while…………..
a few people with Graves and some drs and myself have been discussing the relationship between not feeling well and high antibodies……
seems that there could be a relationship to hypo adrenalism caused by the thyroid and stress,etc….. guess from what i gather even in the general population adrenal exhaustion is common among us harried warriors who work, have kids, play God like parents, and are yuppie money hungry work aholics, etc, etc……maybe it is the price we have to pay for wanting bmw s and our kids to go to college someday too!!
well, of course it may not effect all of us….and i myself have not had an
antibody test done since a yr after Graves diag. but i was told by several that if you have high antibodies after treatment that it could be from hypo adrenalism and cortes at a low dose ?spelling should be given as it will squelch the antibodies and allow your body to return to normal……….the drs said that this might be the reason that when we take our synthyriod esp initially that we feel a rush about an hour and a half later as it may bring the adrenals out of wack for a while…..and it could be the
reason for the energy and extreme fatigue syndrome that we experience….only thing is to be tested for this the normal tests for the adrenals that they give do not show it…..the urine test does however…….
it has been suggested that anyone who has not felt well after treatment and on synthyroid for a while….get a simple antibody test to see if the thyroid antibodies remain high and i guess go from there….i figure that many of us havent had one after a while the drs just figure well the person is on synthyroid and so it is dying or dead so the antibodies should be low…but are they?????
I figure that most drs have thrown up their hands anyway on some of us so how could they deny us an antibody test….anyone willing to try it????
Does this make sense to anyone else or am i rambling out of my body again???I am so sorry for these long involved posts but i feel we have some very self educated, experienced warriors here and if we all had a major pow=wow and shared all the info and knowledge we have we could solve this together……
AnonymousAugust 20, 1997 at 11:36 pmPost count: 93172I dodnt think the level of antibody decreace due to RAI. Thats the mainproblem as I se it. The antibody claimes the thyroid to produce more hormon and the thyroid is not longer there. I think it’s a sort of war going on in our bodys, and that cant be healthy. It’s against nature to treat GD sutch. The only solution would be if there was any way one could decreace the antibodies, but that would call for mutch research (and monye as well). Thats why GD is so cronic, and I’m having second thoughts about accepting RAI.
