Yes, there is a new approach which includes enough PTU to “squelch” the thyroid, and enough replacement T4 for our bodies to work. The idea is to give the thyroid a rest and a chance to heal itself, at least for the time being. The biggest obstacle is whether or not one developes side effects to the ATD’s.
