      Hi,
About two weeks ago I had the muscle problem with my legs, hurt, ache, weak, etc. My Dr ordered labs, (more than just thyroid this time,) one of the labs came back that my Magnessuim (sp)was very low. She told me mine was do to having graves.
I have been taking 1 400mg of Magox dailey. In less than 4 – 5 days my legs were so much better, Today I am still taking Mag0x and my legs dont hurt. I was walking like a robot, had to hold something to pull up from a chair, etc. Maybe ask your Dr to do a blood panel to check you Magnessuim (sp). Your case could be different, but its worth asking.
I have a few calls into my dr. as I had labs done this week becaue my pulse went from 100 – 115 down to 80. I feel slow, kinda weak. I think I am going hypo.. But being Friday I would like an answer on my labs to confirm it…

        Hi Lynn,

It’s impossible for us to say what exactly is going on with you ~ as you see by your first response, the same symptoms can be caused by many factors (going hypo vs. low magnesium), so the best thing to do is to find the doctor and get your blood tested ASAP.

Please do not adjust your medication doses on your own. We can short circuit any control our doctors have on our levels by presuming what is wrong and changing our medication to match our presumptions without knowing the facts.

If your doctors are so difficult to reach, my advice would be to find different doctors. I know that doesn’t help immediately, but it’s something to consider.

Consider calling your doctor’s office and leaving the message as an emergency ~ the people who answer the phones don’t always know when a patient’s request ought to be bumped up to the top of the list, so it’s good to let them know. If all you’re asking for is a lab slip to get blood drawn, it might be easier to get a response.

Wishing you luck and hoping you feel better very soon,

Thanks for the responses so far! I wasn’t sure if I had hypo syptoms or not – and now I see it could be a number of different things. The endo still hasn’t returned my call but i KNOW I can reach my internist by having him paged so I haven’t panicked yet. LOL I will talk to him first thing Monday morning and I’m sure he will send me for bloodwork – it’s not an emergency (yet) so I’ll let him enjoy his weekend. I came home early from work so I have the rest of the weekend to laze around too :-) Thanks alot!

My internist is out of town today and my endo probably won’t call me back till who knows when so I’m turning to you and your experience. I was diagnosed with Graves April 2. I’ve been on 15mg methimazole (5mg 3xDay) since that time. Add to that 25mg atenolol once a day. This dose has been working fine for me until now….I think. The last few days I’ve been verrrrry tired, even when I get up in the morning. Every time I move it feels like I’m pulling a muscle – arms, legs, shoulders, everywhere. My muscles also feel very tired – like I can’t hold my arms up and they ache. I’ve had a headache for the last 2 days and my eyes are puffy in the mornings (I don’t have TED – yet), and I’ve gained 4 lbs in 4 days. I don’t feel terrible, but obviously I don’t feel good. Any suggestions or ideas? If I don’t hear from my endo, should I go ahead and lower my MMI dose to 12.5 or so? I am slated to go back for labs again on May 26 and my endo on June 10. Thanks a bunch for any help you can give me.

Called the doc today and I get “your numbers were perfect 2 weeks ago, I dont think you are going hypo but come in a we will check your blood” I told him I feel so tired and week but not like you feel when you havent slept. This is more like total exhuastion from running or swimming. I asked him if my numbers are perfect could I still be hypo “for me”? He doesnt think so. I have gained weight, I have pains all over from time to time, I have what seems to be some sleep apnea, my heart rate is lower than normal, my stomach seems to be bloated, Im depressed, I feel terrible! If my numbers come back perfect Im not sure what Im going to do!

You did not mention where you are in the treatment process, which can be important. Regardless, going in to see your doctor is the right first step. If your doctor, after examining you, stands on the fact that your numbers are perfect and that “it is not your thyroid,” follow that statement immediately with, “Then please help me to figure out what it IS, because this situation is truly horrible.” Or words to that effect. We can get other problems that make us feel lousy, that have nothing to do with thyroid issues. It’s easiest to “fix” typically if it is our thyroid levels, but nevertheless the important thing is to figure out what IS going on.

I do hope you are feeling better soon.

                  Hello,
I will tell you that I had the same frustrating experience with my endocrinologist time and time again. And, each time it turned out to be related to my thyroid…contrary to what he originally thought. I found that it is very, very helpful to have a good internist to turn to in the event you are feeling terrible and your endocrinologist tells you “it’s not related to your thyroid”. (If I only had dollar for everytime I heard that…) I have a wonderful internist who really took the time to help me figure out what was happening to me and WHY I was having so many problems that my endocrinologist thought were NOT related to my thyroid. Each time, she ultimately determined (after a multitude of tests) that it was, without a doubt, related to my thyroid. My blood work results have never been consistent with how I am actually feeling. (ie..in normal range, but still feeling either hyper or hypo.) So, if your endo isn’t taking the time to give you answers, find someone who will!!

Hang in there. Things WILL get better!

thank you for your replys. Its so weird. I feel bad for a day or two and feel ok. I had blood drawn today and I actually feel okay. I still feel like I have a lump in my throat and a little tired but I dont feel weak. I wonder if I should get blood drawn on those bad days? I felt better pre rai than I do now. Makes me question why I had rai. I appreciate all of the replys.
