Hi! I just got home from the trip to Hawaii yesterday, after one of those lovely “red-eye” flights. We left Honolulu at 7pm and arrived in Florida at 11am the next day. Yuck! So yesterday I tried to catch up with the board while dealing with a big case of jet lag!! Futility. You all were posting a LOT while I was gone!!!

The trip was good. I got to see my endo a few days before I left, and she lowered the synthroid, and told me what medications would help to allay the hyper symptoms while I was flying etc. I couldn’t do everything I’d planned to do in Hawaii, unfortunately, because it took a while for the hormone levels to come back down, but I had a GREAT time anyway. It was very relaxing even simply sitting on the beach and reading. The weather was terrific and we all had a good time.
Some highlights — Well, the Polynesian fire dancer at a luau we attended accidentally set fire to the stage hut! I had been wondering if the fire was “real” — and got my answer when the roof of the grass shack went up in flames. And the humpback whales were still in Maui when we arrived there, so we were able to watch them from shore, and from boats, as they leaped out of the water, and dove down slapping their flukes. Such magnificent creatures. And, from 30,000 feet up on a red-eye flight, the Hale-Bopp (sp?) comet is quite visible.

Now I have to make an appointment to see the endo again so that we can try to get the thyroid hormone levels balanced out. The dose she put me on for the trip seemed way too low (am I never satisfied?!!?)so I was “bad” and changed the dose myself while I was there — slightly up from where she told me. Now, here I am, the adult, approaching a phone call to the doctor as if I were a small child being called into the principal’s office. : ) Oh well. I don’t really think that this is going to be a problem. My endo seems to be very amenable to the idea that the patient DOES know how they feel, and that there is validity to those feelings. She may not always agree with the reasoning, but she always seems to LISTEN. Too bad we can’t clone her.

    Bobbi,

Too bad I didn’t know you coming here. I would have loved to have met you in person. Next time. ;-) Hope you had a lot of fun!

    Caroline
