PLEASE try not to use brand names in your posts on this board. It is much, much better for us to use the generic names for drugs and other products. First off, there are people from all different countries reading this board, and the brand names in the United States may be very different from the brand names there — which could lead to confusion. Secondly, the use of brand names could make the support board system vulnerable to legal action, which none of us wants.
So, here is a primer of the generic names:
PTU is a shorthand form for the generic drug propylthiouricil, so we CAN use “PTU” in our posts. (thank goodness!)
Tapazole’s generic name is “METHIMAZOLE”
The T4 replacement hormone drugs are “LEVOTHYROXIN” — these include (in the US, at least) Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, Eltroxin, Levo T, and any generic that is called levothyroxin. Any of these brands will have EXACTLY the same active chemical as the other. The only difference will be the inert materials used as “fillers” to make the chemical into a pill.
Thanks for your help on this issue.
