I had RAI April 16th — I’m not sure how many millicuries, but my “infor sheet” was for those dosed under 10 mc. I am assuming by my beta-blocker dose (50 mg per day) that I am on the lower end of hyper, but I’m not sure of my actual levels. I was told that for the first two days I should sleep in a separate bed from my husband and, preferably, be away from my kids (5 and 7). They were away all weekend. They came home Monday after daycare and I was told that for the first week I should be particularly careful hugging them close, that my thyroid itself will be radioactive for 80 days but apparently for that first week it is more “virulent,” or something. They gave me a one-foot range of danger, and made an allegory to a fire — if you’re far away, looking at it, no problem. Get close, get warm. Get close for a long time and get burned. So no babies snuggling on my neck until sometime in July. Other than freaking out about whether I remembered to satisfy all precautions, I have felt no different since. Oh, my doctor had a GREAT suggestion — cotton garden gloves to wear around the house! That way you do not have to worry about every single thing that you touch. My documentation said the highest amount is excreted in the urine. Good luck!!!!! Keep reading the board, this information can not be duplicated!
