    Sara,

If you are willing to travel, I have an incredible endo in Wayne County. His office is in Southgate. He has been spotlighted in Endo Today magazine. His name is Dr. Khoury. Office number is 734-282-3138. If you are not willing or able to travel that far, maybe he could reccomend someone in your area.

    Sherry,

I had my surgery last year at 39. After the surgery I had a minor sore throat for three days. Besides that I felt great. The scar is so minimal that you would not even see it unless I pointed it out. Of all the surgeries I have had, and I have had many, that was by far the easiest. I’m sure your daughter will do great.

    KC,

Hang in there. I know it is extremely frustrating, but it will get better. Stick with this site for lots of good information and support. You are not alone. There are a lot of good people here who know just what you are going through. You will get through this, unfortunately it does take time. I am still trying to find the right dose for my Synthroid one year post op. In general, I feel great. I am happy again. I never thought that day would come, it just took TIME. Good luck. Hope you keep us updated.

I wish I could help you. I tried everything. Either it would fall off, or I would rip it off while sleeping. When I wore a mask, I had real problems. The pressure of the mask left my vision blurry for the first hour I was awake. I ended up having the surgery and that has worked for me.

I tried medications first, but my symptoms continued to worsen. My endo and I decided to have the thyrodectomy. The surgeon discussed all of the possible complications with me. It sounded similar to the commercials you see for any medication. The medication cures the problem, but they list 52 possible side effects. They need to cover their butt if problems should occur. My surgery went well. I had a minor sore throat for about three days. I had no problems with calcium or anything else. I started feeling better almost immediately! The scar on my neck is so minimal that unless I point it out, you can’t even see it. I would recommend the surgery to anyone. I hope all goes well for you too.

    Jeff,
I lost my job and almost lost my family before I was diagnosed. I thought I was going crazy. I was extremely suicidal. Nothing anyone said or did helped because I didn’t know what was going on in my head. Being that your wife has been diagnosed, and is hopfully being treated, you are both on your way to recovery. Just be there for her if and when she needs you. Try to understand that Grave’s Disease takes over your mind and your thoughts. Be patient, very patient. My husband and I are more in love now than ever. This is due in part because he stayed by my side for better or worse, in sickness and in health. I’m sure he would tell you that it wasn’t easy, but it was well worth it! Best wishes, Tracy

Linda, I too had heart problems when diagnosed with Grave’s at 38. Because I have had heart problems for the last 20 years, I did not put it together with my other "symptoms" before my Grave’s diagnosis. I had a cardiac ablasion years ago that corrected the original problem. With the beta blocker, my heart is good again with Grave’s. Ski is right, this disease has caused a lot of damage over time and it will take time to fix it. Hang in there!!! Tracy

This is my first visit to the site. Wow, I wish that I had found it earlier. I was diagnosed with Grave’s Disease about two years ago. I thought I was going crazy for as much as two years before that. Doctors did not put my symptoms together. I lost my job and almost lost my family. It wasn’t until my eye symtoms appeared that doctor’s started to belive that something truly was wrong. That’s when the testing began. I was diagnosed with a severe case of Grave’s and started on anti thyroid drugs and steroids. I was so frustrated. It took so long to diagnose, now I know what it is and treatment was slow. My symptoms were getting worse. I wanted my life back. My endo finally said we needed to stop playing around and take the entire thyroid out. I spoke with the surgon the next week. I had the surgery in September, 2007. I had a minor sore throat after the surgery. Recovery was quick. My symptoms inproved almost immediatly. My eye went back to normal, but it still would not stay closed at night. I just went through a lid retraction to correct that. That surgery was minor. We are still working on my correct dose of synthroid. The scar on my neck is so minimal, that if I don’t point it out, nobody knows it is there. I finally have my life back! My husband and I are crazy in love again. My kids have the mom they have missed for years. I would recommend the surgery to anyone who has that option. In my case it was well worth it. I have my life back and I am HAPPY!!! Good luck!
