OK. Well I am going to keep on truckin as they say. I am a high school teacher and let me tell you…it is ROUGH the last couple of periods every school day. I keep telling my endo that I need more energy to keep up with my fifteen and sixteen year old students. I become frustrated at times and just about willing to do anything to get my energy levels back. I could kick arse and take names before my surgery. Now I just want to go to sleep on my desk. LOL

I am sure that "this too shall pass." I just want it to pass sooner than later. I was hoping a multi-vitamin or exercise or anything would speed up the process. My endo had me taking 112mcg after the surgery then he upped it to 125mcg. I got a phone call today from the nurse saying that my numbers were nutty again and they reduced it to 100mcg. Sigh. It is always good to hear the opinions and experiences of others because otherwise I would be certifiably crazy!

Thanks girl. I put my Synthroid on my nightstand as suggested along with my favorite water bottle. I had my pills on the kitchen counter but this is better because it forces me to look at it when I am swatting at the alarm clock. I will have to change my morning routine around but it shouldn’t be too much of a change. My endo told me the same thing about the calcium and Synthroid and to not take it at the same time. I feel like I am learning about a whole new process now. I feel good though! Merry Christmas!

I know that I am posting this a little late, but maybe you will see it. I had my surgery nine days ago. My surgeon said to plan on being out of work for ten work days which would end up being two weeks. I am feeling pretty good at this point but I know that everyone is different.

I thought they were going to put me on a liquid diet for a few days afterward but they told me no dietary restrictions. I still chose to eat really soft foods for a few days such as Cream of Wheat, apple sauce, Boost drinks, etc. I told the nurses that the inside of my throat hurt more than the actual incision site when I was in the hospital but really it wasn’t that bad. I was in the hospital for one day for them to monitor my calcium levels. I think I took one pain pill the night I came home but that was it. My mom stayed with me a few days afterward at my house then I told her to go home. I was able to operate independently within a few days.

I was scared too but it was the right decision for me and my situation. I don’t regret it one bit. Hope that helps.

Well, I made it through traffic in record time. I guess the godess of wrecks was not working against me today. Talked to the doctor about surgery in the future once my "hot" thyroid becomes cool. I was a little frustrated because the doctor wanted to increase the 40 mg a day to 60 mg a day for a month to make it cool down faster. He said that he may reduce it back again to the 40 mg or less depending on the results of my blood that was drawn today.

I thought he was going to want to do a scan but he doesn’t want to risk taking me off of Methimazole for two weeks. I told him that I was fine with it (been reading up on surgery for weeks on this site!) so I guess we shall see! He also told me that I could start walking again if I wished but no jogging or running. That made me happy.

I did some breathing exercises before he came in the room and this helped quite a bit. I tried to drink more water today at work so I would be hydrated. Guess I will have to wait and see.

Thanks ladies and have a fantastic day/night.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I got my biopsy results back and they ruled out Papillary cancer. I thought/hoped they would come out and say "you have no cancer whatsoever" but I didn’t realize they only tested for one form on the biopsy. I am still somewhat relieved and just taking things day by day. My Endo says I still have an abnormal nodule though (4 cm) and I am still under his directives to take 40mg of Methimazole a day to control my "extreme hyperthyroidism". They do not feel another biopsy is necessary. I feel good at this point but no chest pounding waking me up in the middle of the night and my thoughts are not those of a mad woman. I still drive everyone mad at team meetings at work by tapping my pencil way too much and swinging my leg or foot under the table. It’s funny that you don’t even realize you do these things until someone points it out. I am looking forward to just focusing on one task and being able to complete it and to sit still. And dare I say it…maybe meditate?

I go back to see Doc in a few weeks to run more tests and they want to talk about a thyroid uptake scan. I am fine with this and have accepted that it is ok if I need my thyroid removed or to complete RAI. I just want to work on being healthy again and getting back to my early morning walk/jog. This is so silly but one of the hardest parts has been when I was told to stop exercising. The last week has been pure hell with too many highs and lows. Maybe this is what I needed to put things into perspective <img decoding=” title=”Smile” />

Thank you so much for your responses. I am going to keep reading the posts on this board and hopefully will hear some news in the next few days about my biopsies. This forum seems to be the first one that I have visited in a long time that is objective and non biased which is a huge plus.

I have a couple of questions about RAI. I am a high school teacher and I worry about exposing any of my kiddos. I have read about how safe it is but I really want to use caution. I am also curious if RAI exacerbates any other conditions. I ask because I was diagnosed with skin melanoma three years ago and had a nice chunk cut out of my arm. I know this sounds crazy, but I do worry about RAI creating or exacerbating another problem. I also have super dry eyes. I have never been diagnosed with any thyroid eye disorder but my Systane eye drops are my best friend. These are just some of the things going through my head at the moment. I appreciate everyone letting me vent!
