in reply to: TED & orbital radiation therapy #1068977
Thanks Ski. I’m just letting you know what the radiation oncologist told me when he treated me. It may vary from person to person, but I agree with you on the prednisone. They had me on prednisone while going through the radiation therapy at the same time b/c they say you get better results. I can tell you they also said that I should see results for up to 6 months after the radiation, but I’m not sure it was worth it for me.
in reply to: TED & orbital radiation therapy #1068975Hello Susan: I’ve gone through three IV Steroid infusions as well as the Orbital Radiation Therapy for 10 days. I will tell you that I learned you can only have the Radiation Therapy TWICE A LIFETIME. There are side effects to every procedure, but it was 15 mins. EVERY DAY for 10 days and did it work?? I’ve seen not much difference but the dr. seems to think it worked. He can tell when he measures my eyes….
in reply to: Intravenous Glucocorticosteroids #1069646Yep Carla…does seem unfair, doesn’t it? Life isn’t fair and so we keep muddling through what we need to do, that’s for sure…the IV Glucocorticosteroids may lower your daughter’s immune system so I hope she doesn’t pick up another illness from the other children. Remind her to wash, wash, wash her hands!! Please let me know how she does…
in reply to: Antihistimine & GD ?? #1069225Thanks Ski for answering my post!! GD has certainly risen my AWARENESS to everything from self-medicating to being sure all my drs, including my dentist now, is aware!! Never thought about telling the dentist, but it all makes sense now!! Hope you are having a WONDERFUL vacation my friend…we can’t wait to hear your ventures!!
in reply to: Intravenous Glucocorticosteroids #1069644Carla: Just wanted to update you on the side effects I experienced from the IV Solumedrol this go around…I now have the SHINGLES. OH YEAH!! Thought you’d like to know how it’s lowered my immune system…hope your daughter is doing well with her treatment. Let me know when you find the doll so I can stick a few pins in the thyroid area for that RN…whoever your husband was talking to about this disease doesn’t have enough experience for good judgement…those of us that have GD have more first hand experience than she’ll ever endure…ignorance is bliss (just my theory) HA!!
in reply to: Antihistimine & GD ?? #1069223Question?? I just read on the internet that patients with GD must also avoid novocaine, antihistamines and ephedrine. Novocaine?? This I can’t relate to?? When I go to the dentist, I shouldn’t have novocaine for a tooth filling or dental work? If that’s the case, what do people do with this disease???
in reply to: UGH, ROUGH DAY AT THE OFFICE…. #1069023Krystal: THIS DISEASE DOES SUCK!! There’s not a nice way to say it…
in reply to: intermittent heat/hot flashes in my leg? #1070354Just got back from Endocrinologist and he took one look at my leg and said that I have pretibial myxedema, part of GD. He said that he wants me to take pictures of it when it flares up so that he can keep track. Apparently, and I haven’t read much on it, it’s more of a necrosis caused by GD?? Anyone here might want to give their input, but it doesn’t sound like a pleasant symptom to have with this disease…ARGH!! He double my meds that he quadrupled last month now…it’s that or surgery for me since I have TED too. Not many options left for me.
in reply to: will the tremors EVER go away for good? #1069071Well Emily…I don’t think they will. Just when mine seemed to be under control, last night our house was struck by lightening and the tremors kicked up again BIG TIME!! The lightening struck the low voltage in our house but knocked out our alarm system, HVAC system, phone, etc. The lightening struck a pipe on the top of the house, which served as a conductor & it came down through the middle of my house, bad situation. Besides smelling the electrical burning and having 5 circuit breakers pop, some damage, we are fine (which is the most impt.). There were 7 house fires last night in the area I live from lightening so I feel fortunate mine didn’t start a fire too. So, with that said, I think any stressful situation we are placed in is when they decide to kick it up a notch…I HATE THEM!! They’re so bad today for me, it’s difficult for me to hold a pen right now. Not fun…
in reply to: intermittent heat/hot flashes in my leg? #1070353Yes, I’ve noticed a redness in the front of my leg within the past week or so…I have an Endo appt. tomorrow & will address it then to see if he can tell me anything about it.
It is weird that it’s in the same place, but my left lower leg, above the ankle to the left of my shin bone. HHHmmm…
Welcome to a great site where you’ll receive a lot of support and knowledge. I’m sure a facilitator will answer your question, but I’ve been in and out of hyperthyroidism, in & out of hypothyroidism over the past yr. & my dr. asked me not to exercise while in hyperthyroidism due to the tachycardia, I’m sure. Hang in there…once they start leveling you out, you’ll be back to exercising, I’m sure. I believe it’s just a temporary set-back on exercise with GD for now, sorry!!
in reply to: depression anyone? #1069134Depression !! I get up every morning, put on my knee-high boots and feel like I’m walking through knee-high mud to make the day worthwhile. Welcome to GD and everything that goes along with it. ARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!
in reply to: Antihistimine & GD ?? #1069221OMG Hyperm, I NEVER THOUGHT about throat lozengers so you’re RIGHT, we do need to ALWAYS read the labels for all the "over the counter" drugs…WOW!! Thanks for the insight!!
in reply to: Antihistimine & GD ?? #1069218Hello Susan! Yes, Kimberly I believe has this nailed as to what I was reading, but if you’ve taking an antihistimine for several months and you’re dr. is aware of this, then it must agree with you. I believe it was something regarding the tachycardia that we need to be careful with taking substances that increase our heart rate!! Thanks Kimberly for claryifying my understanding!!
