in reply to: Leg cramps?? #1067505

I had cramps so bad last weekend, I couldn’t get out of bed. I had charlie horses in BOTH LEGS all Friday night and Saturday, I had pain in my elbows from lifting my arms, pain in my wrists, pain in my back, pain in my neck so bad I couldn’t move it left or right, it was AWFUL. I was walking like someone 40 yrs. older than what I was, moaning and groaning (embarrassing). I saw my endocrinologist on Tuesday, my TSH was 7.65 and my T4 was 0.9. He believes my potassium is low so I’m eating pears and bananas b/c I already take mega doses of vitamins. Last time I was severely HYPO (32.5), I had the same symptoms. Me, I’ve been through this once before where I couldn’t get out of bed, the pain was so bad I couldn’t walk and so I just resign myself to Graves. I’ve found that in the last year and 1/2 I’ve had it, it manifests itself like a monster at times…good luck and let me know how you get along.

THANKS SO MUCH!! I know, as an adult, it’s a difficult disease, but since I’m in a child developmental class, I’d like to see how this relates to children and how they handle "environmental factors"!! I appreciate all the input I can receive!!

I feel that way EVERY TIME I go to see my Endo dr. He "argues" with me about having my thyroid REMOVED…that’s a BIG DECISION for me and he needs to understand, but somehow I feel like a punished kid when I leave there too….you’re right, WHO’S THE CUSTOMER here??
Please let us know your numbers tomorrow night…hang in there!!

Good luck Lori on your quest for answers and your diet/exercise…don’t know how many people on this site have had cancer, along with the GD DX, etc. I’m positive there’s a correlation b/t stress and the thyroid and my GD too, no doubt…I HATE being a TYPE A personality…just don’t know WHEN to stop.

    Hello Knitlit:

AWESOME!! THANKS FOR SHARING "GOOD NEWS !!"
Question? Are you on synthroid b/c you had your thyroid removed? If so, how long ago?
Thanks for any info since I too have the TED and know that RAI is not an option for me.

I’m so sorry Nicole for your dd diagnosis…I can’t IMAGINE going through what I have already at your dd’s age. I actually had an outburst on Sat. night with my husband and he now sits patiently and the next day, he asks me, "how’s your thyroid today?" It’s not comical, it’s serious when we can’t control our actions and there are days I’m outta control, but he’s now keying in on them without me having to say anything. I don’t know how to really answer your question, just to support you and say, unfortunately, her outbursts could be very real for how she’s truly feeling…sad, but true. Hang in there!!

Lori G…THIS IS MY [b:1sx6396r]PERSONAL[/b:1sx6396r], [b:1sx6396r]ONLY PERSONAL OPINION[/b:1sx6396r], but YES!! I do believe that MY CANCER was driven by the overproduction of the thyroid hormones b/c it was breast cancer, ESTROGEN RECEPTIVE CANCER. With THAT being said, I’ve been on thyroid meds for 1 yr. now AND, I haven’t had ANY CANCER MARKERS this past year!! YEAH!! Only MY HOPE and MY PERSPECTIVE that this could be a link to my cancer; however, I can’t get my Endo or my Oncologist to ADMIT there is a link!!
I’m sure a facilitator will help answer your question better; however, in my heart of hearts, I’VE ALWAYS BELIEVE THIS was MY case and still do.

I’m so sorry this montrous disease is affecting you and your family, but I believe we’ve all been where you are now with our spouse. I’m happy to see that your wife has your love and support through this sickness. I only WISH that my husband was interested enough in my GD to seek out websites as wonderful as this one for the knowledge and support you’ll receive here.
Just wanted you to know your family are in my thoughts and prayers through life’s journey with GD. Know there will be very frustrating times, but everyone tells me there’s light at the end of the tunnel once your levels even out…I’m waiting for the light, like a lot of others on this site.
I agree, call your wife’s dr. NOW. Best wishes Michael.

Hey Ski & Kimberly!! Thanks for the info. The "normal levels for T4 FREE is 0.9-1.8 and I AM FEELING MORE HYPO EVERY DAY so this makes sense to me. My Endo is also trying to convince me that I need to have my thyroid taken out surgically, but according to these numbers, I’M FINE, right? Don’t understand why my TSI is still 310 though?? It was in the 600’s when I was first diagnosed so that’s come down?? Would you know "why" that’s a little high too? It went from 188 to 310 in the past month?? I’ll be getting more labs done in the next few wks as I have an appt. mid-Sept. and I’ll report what they are before I go to see him. Doesn’t make sense that he increased my meds 4x over either then to me…HHHmmm….THANKS ALL!!

Thanks Kimberly for responding to my question. The labs on 9 July were as follows: TSH 0.02 & T4 Free was 1.7. On 29 July (3-4 wks. later), they were TSH 0.01, T4 FREE 1.1 and TSI was 310. They did not run my T3 FREE?? Any addl. insight you can provide me would be appreciated? I don’t think my labs are going in the right direction for hypo??

in reply to: weight gain #1068463

Hello mama 44…how long have you been diagnosed with GD? I’ve gained a lot of weight too with this disease…mostly from the fatigue and steroids, I believe. It’s a struggle, no doubt, but I know there’s a "weight gain" chain that is on this site you might want to sign up for…lots and lots of support here!!

    in reply to: Cancer #1068468

So sorry to hear your news Marie…but, if this helps, I’m a 5 yr. breast cancer survivor and I find dealing with GD and the TED is much worse than ever having dealt with my cancer, chemotherapy, etc. We are STRONG individuals and this journey will make you stronger than you ever thought possible. Just know our thoughts and prayers are with you through this experience. Hang in there and please let us know how everything goes at the Endo’s office as you recover from this shocking news.

That’s a WONDERFUL idea for those of us that are unable to drive b/c of our TED and double vision too!!

Thanks for the idea, I hope they can do it!! <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” />
