in reply to: Change in taste? #1180618
Hi!
I had RAI mid sept 2012 and somewhere around January I noticed my food tasted blah. Especially my favorites like green beans just didn’t do anything for me. That’s when I started noticing the dry mouth. Especially in the morning.
Do you have dry mouth?
Someone on here mentioned Sjögren’s syndrome so I had It checked with my primary. All negative. So I asked my endo if RAI can damage your salivary glands and she responded yes that she had another patient that it happened to.
All she told me to do was eat sour lemon candies and drink lots of water.
My dentist also told me to be diligent in your oral hygiene and use biotene products with xylitol.
Hope this helps you.

Hi Shirley
Sorry I edited my post. It should have said armour and it’s natural dedicated counterparts. (Ndt).
I belong to a Facebook group called thyroid sexy. I believe the article came from there. I will have to look though. If I find it again I will send it to you.
I try to read as much as I can about this disease but I don’t have alot of spare time. It’s hard to find truly reliable sources.

I went to the hospital to get these done, so I’m not sure if they have something like that available. I will check into that though. Thanks for the heads up!

in reply to: My baby girl #1180171Hi
She is still complaining of sleeping issues. Her bp looks good. Hr is usually 95-107. Hasn’t said anything about anxiety. Just sometimes hard to catch her breath. She’s pretty laid back.
She is a competitive cheerleader so I’m reluctant to leave her at practice now. I just stay and read a book just in case she has any issues. I’m not sure what id do besides call an ambulance, but it makes me feel better just being there. Just in case.
Had all her tests done this morning. Hopefully I will hear from her pediatrician on Friday. I don’t plan on changing peds since they seem to be doing everything they can at this point. And I’m very happy about that.
I will let u know how it goes.

Great discussion!
I was just reading an article on how armour and its ndt counterparts were the only hormone replacement used for 100 years and is strictly regulated by the FDA. This article actually said it had significantly fewer recalls on their med than said generic T4s.
That said I find it funny that drs are calling this med quackery since for many years that is all that was available to us was this quackery.
There are many people out there that feel their best on armour or some sort of T3 added to their T4. It may be the way I go eventually if I don’t get to the point where I feel mostly myself again.

in reply to: My baby girl #1180164Hi Shirley,
I have a blood pressure cuff and every so often I would have her check it. Her blood pressure is always pretty good. Her heart rate is usually 95. Couple times when she felt it was racing was 110 & 130. And it came down later in the evening when I had her check it again.
When we were in the drs office they manually calculated her pulse at 84. Idk if that’s more accurate than the bp cuff?
I got the paper copies of her labs yesterday. And I’m gonna have to call back her dr again since she didn’t call me back again.
I’ve been with this pediatrician for 15 years. I would hate to have to switch. Although if they give me a hard time that is exactly what I’m gonna do. My husband agrees.
Going to give them another call.

in reply to: My baby girl #1180162Hi and thanks Kimberley for the info.
ft4 is 1.0 range .9-1.4
I looked back at my old records and 7 months before being officially diagnosed I was at
TSH .74 ref .4-4.5
Ft4 1.0 ref .8-1.9So right around where she is now.
Pediatrician called me back wants her to come in for another visit.
My husband is really in denial right now. Just keeps telling me her labs are in range. But he doesn’t realize (and I’ve repeated many times this evening) is that its not just her labs. It’s all the symptoms I’ve been trying to tell myself were normal over the past year. They all add up to one thing. And I know because I’ve been there myself. It was 73 out yesterday and she’s complaining its so hot out.She is spending a few days at a friends house so I haven’t had a chance to talk to her about this at all. Which my be good since I will have that time to mentally prepare myself for the discussion.
Ok so what do you all think. Yes labs “in range” but I still think I need to follow up on this.

in reply to: Plummers nail #1180148Hi
I just looked up what this plummers nail is and realized I had this on my pinky last summer!
Was pulling the clothes out of the washer and my nail just about came off !
Didn’t really hurt at all either. And I’ve felt alot of my nails were just not attached properly if that makes any sense, but it’s the best way to describe it.
