HI! How are you feeling? I haven’t heard the grape fruit thing. I don’t eat grape fruit tho. I drink it with Pepsi, that helps too. I’m glad I’m not the only person who thinks it tastes like crap! lol How long have you been on it? When do you take it?
in reply to: PTU QUESTIONS! #1074749Thanks Bobbi!
I just talked to the pharmacist. She said that it can cause body aches. You should see me take the pills. It’s so funny cuz I count down-shove um in and swallow as fast as I can. Somehow I still get that nasty taste. So as soon as the pills are down (GET READY THIS IS WEIRD!) I love pickled beats, so I eat a few of them and it cuts the taste emmediatle!I also found that on the pills you should avoid Calcium Bicarbonate-Ant-acids and iron. My mom gave me some of her peppermint Altoids and they are strong enough to help also. Thanks A lot!
Thanks Bobbi!
I’m going to look through my schedule and start planning ME time, because if I don’t I’m just hurting myself. I haven’t seen an endocrinologist because my doctor feels she can handle it and the truth is she doesn’t know enough. A asked all these questions and got vague answers. When I looked up the answers to the questions I asked I got all the answers books and the internet. I was reffed to a new pc doc yesterday by a friend who is hypo-thyroid. I just called the office and have an appt on Tuesday! That way this new doctor can give me the referral needed to see an endo. How do you explain to family and friends what your going through? My friends think I’m depressed or lying to them because I don’t want to hang out. Truth is besides being unbelievably busy, I don’t have the energy to take a shower let alone give up a nap to hang out with them. I mean my family knows I’m sick but they get exacerbated when I sleep more than usual or I move as slow as snail. My three year old can run circles around me. He makes so many messes because I can’t chase him. Then because my body hurts all over I don’t get up to clean it! I’m living at home with 7 siblings until I can save enough for a new apartment. So when it gets messy ( even tho my mom is the sweetest) she freaks out and forgets that I’m not being lazy, I’M IN PAIN or TIRED! The other bad thing is I called to talk to the nurse at my pc, because I don’t see the new doc untill tue. I asked the nurse if my PTU could be causing the body aches. THE NURSE DIDN’T KNOW WHAT A PTU WAS! SHE HAD NEVER HEARD OF IT. So …ummm.ya I’m definitely excited about this new doctor. My friend she is up on the very latest in thyroid! Thanks for your response!
in reply to: Questions I Have #1074826HI!
I am new to this group also. I don’t have a lot of answers BUT I have the best answer. I found a book EVERYONE should read. It has been my thyroid bible. It has everything and anything you need to know. I found it at my local library. It’s called THE THYROID SOLUTION by Ridha Arem M.D
I can’t recommend this book enough! It will answer all your questions. It’s written with exact expertise and has a mind and body plan for beating the disease and regaining your health and your life! It also has a STRONG emphasis on Depression- and all the side effects the mind goes through and has MANY solutions. It’s easy to read and I found it extremely comforting. It’s for both hypo and hyperthyroid patients. With sections for each. It even talks about thyroid cancer and it’s treatments. It has the following:PART 1

HI! I was diagnosed with Grave’s several days ago. I had restless leg so bad I couldn’t sleep and felt like I was going nuts. The constant moving and that awful feeling like you can’t stop. I found out that Magnesium takes it away immediately. It was my savior. I don’t like taking pills unless it’s necessary and I prefer natural things with no side effects. I’m on a PTU – Beta Blocker and migraine meds. I also have a bad back and take medicine for that. If you have restless legs try take magnesium before bed. Take it long enough before you plan to sleep so you get the full effect.
Hope it helps.
