in reply to: 6 weeks post RAI and all better?!? #1068392Thanks you all!
Julie, keep us posted on how Friday goes!
in reply to: Weigh-in (just for fun) #1068719lol, one pink line for hypo two pink lines for hyper and a star when your just right? Hope your labs are good, keep us posted! And I do have a jar of sauce, I’m thinking about those noodles again. Just too dang lazy and don’t wanna mess up my kitchen.
in reply to: Weigh-in (just for fun) #1068717ewmb – when do you go to get your levels checked? Those do sound like hypo things you describe. It’s chilly here, too, and I considered making pasta and meatballs but then remembered I don’t cook. DH will be at work til midnite since it’s the last day of the month (I am a car biz widow) and even on normal nites he isn’t home til 10, so I’m kinda used to the lonely thing. Least I have my little guy. But we eat weird stuff cause cooking is silly for just us 2. Spaghetti sounds yummy, though! I fed my addiction with a peanut butter sandwich and I will make DS a steak wrap and a salad.
in reply to: 6 weeks post RAI and all better?!? #1068387elf – how are you feeling now with replacement? Do you feel like your "old self" or different? Did it take a lot of work to get your levels right?
hyperm – good news— mile per mile, running doesn’t burn a whole lot more than walking, it just takes longer to walk. I don’t know exactly, some things I have read say about 100 cals per mile running and 80 walking. When I do calculators that use my weight as a basis for calories used, I usually come up with somewhere around 75 cals per mile running. Walking is GREAT! I walked 3 miles every day for 10+ years before I started running. It’s so uplifting, to notice the plants, birds, wildlife… and it makes you feel good, too. I don’t notice as much when I run, so that is really something I DID enjoy about walking with Graves’ these past few months.

in reply to: Weigh-in (just for fun) #1068715Up to 139.5
But I feel great so I’m not gonna let that bring me down. Plus we ate at the chinese buffet last night and I always blow up with water after chinese, so hopefully that’s all it is.
in reply to: results of the lab #1068445Hi Deb- Yes, my numbers on diagnosis were very close to yours and I do have Graves’. My T4 was 3.44, T3 was 11.2 and TSH less than 0.005. I did have an uptake and scan right about the same time as the bloodwork and it was high, so they figured it was Graves’ but then on my scan it looked like one side of my thyroid was longer than the other, so they sent me for an ultrasound to rule out any nodules. Turns out one side IS just a little longer. I also had the antibodies blood work come back positive for Graves’. I had rai on July 20 and was able to jog a slow mile by about 3 weeks after. I ran 5 yesterday and could still see my heart rate was higher than I liked, but today— 5 weeks and 4 days post rai, my HR looks just about right.
Keep your positive attitude… you said "I am certain we are all going to be just fine" and you’re RIGHT!!! The one thing I have found this disease requires is patience, and that was a toughie for me! I remember telling my family doctor about my fast heartbeat and telling him he needed to fix me NOW!!! I was like – NOOOO, you don’t UNDERSTAND, I can’t WAIT… you have to make me better RIGHT AWAY! Then later, after the Graves’ diagnosis, I found out about my 3 lovely treatment options and I honestly chose RAI because I thought that would be the fastest way back. Now, I’m not so sure if I couldn’t have gotten "normal" faster with ATD’s, but if this works (and so far, so good) I’ll be cool with my choice.
Keep us posted, K?

in reply to: Weigh-in (just for fun) #1068711Well you girls are just full of good news today, huh? COOL!!! sounds like everybody’s going hypo together!

I’m great. Wow, really didn’t expect to ever say that again. Sitting here at the computer and my heart rate monitor is reading 47. I wore it to deliver my route today and could see the average is way down. I was looking at 48 a couple times driving around! I guess I will worry when I see it under 43 or so since I know it was under 45 before all of this. Just came from the grocery store where I froze my butt of for the first time in ages! And I don’t feel ravenously hungry all the time anymore!!! Can’t wait to run later and see what happens. I am 5 weeks and 4 days post rai. Yesterday I could still feel some hyper but today that has disappeared.
Making Wild Alaskan Salmon and rice for dinner. YUM! It’s my favorite and now I have my DS hooked on it. DH doesn’t love it, but now that DS wants it I have an excuse for buying it. I never cook, but I’ll cook for salmon.

in reply to: First Doctor appoint today since RAI 3 weeks ago #1068434Hope your doctor appointment went well. RAI seems to be pretty unpredictable from person to person, but at 3 weeks I still had moments like you describe. Today, at 5 weeks and 4 days I feel perfect for the first time in months. You’ll get there. I was only taking 10 mg propranolol once in a while at night to help me sleep, and I did go off of it completely after RAI. If you take it regularly you’ll need to taper off of it slowly. I never took ATD’s, before or after the rai. Let us know how you’re feeling.
in reply to: What happens after RAI? #1068450Hi Julie!
It’s been 5 weeks since I had RAI and I am also worried about gaining. I lost only a couple pounds while hyper and have gained them back plus a few. The good news is that my T3 and T4 were normal at my one month labs and my doctor okay’d me for hard exercise and I know I can lose it now. I feel just about normal. I still can’t run fast without my heart rate shooting high, and my heart rate recovery is not where it was prior to Graves’ but hopefully that will come in time. My strength is coming back and so is my muscle tone. It was weird, I think the weight I lost when I was hyper was all muscle. I worked hard for over a year getting toned abs and it was like overnight they were gone. I had a minor sore throat off and on for the past month- nothing serious and it could also just be allergies. But everyone reacts differently- symptoms and recovery have huge variations. Keep us posted on your progress, we’re here for you!in reply to: results of the lab #1068443Hi Deb! Your lab results do seem to be pointing to Graves’. The uptake will tell you more. Your labs are almost exactly what mine were when I was diagnosed. Keep reading and researching and make your own informed decision on treatment. It’s a very personal choice. Best wishes, let us know how it goes, okay?
in reply to: Weigh-in (just for fun) #1068706Me… normal? Not a chance— but my T3 and T4 are!!! I’m amazed, I thought they’d still be slightly high since I do not think my heart has completely returned to it’s old self. Maybe I still have a little ways to go for that? TSH still undetectable, but that’s okay since it lags behind. Recheck in another month or sooner if I feel hypo symptoms. First question out of my mouth was "OK, SO CAN I RUN NOW????" (even though I have already been kinda trotting along) and the nurse went and asked the doc and she said YES!!!! They called this morning while I was at work. Finally.
in reply to: Gutted and fed up :( #1068487There you are! I’ve been thinking about you. Geez that really stinks about your vocal cords! Do they know for sure that they won’t heal with time? I’m sorry, hyperm.
” title=”Sad” /> But you are right, at least now you can be better for your family.
in reply to: Weigh-in (just for fun) #1068704ewmb- not yet. I called again yesterday and they again told me that the doctor had not reviewed them but that a nurse would probably call that afternoon. It’s getting old. The lab is supposed to mail me a copy, so maybe I will end up getting that first (today??). I hate it cause I jump every time the phone rings. I’m discouraged with the doc office and probably will be looking for a new endo, this is kinda ridiculous. Thanks for asking. Are you feeling improved since you re-started the meds?
in reply to: Does age impact ATD’s? #1068558Hi Deb! Keep doing research until you figure out what YOU want to do. I am 41 and it has been 5 weeks since I had RAI- it was my choice. So far, so good. The different options in treatment all can be successful but each has it’s own risks and benefits, it’s a very personal decision.
