in reply to: Eyelid Surgery #1182912
I have the same problem so I eyes seem to be tearing. This not simply watery but more like a gel at times. I am afraid to get corrective surgery since there is always the possibility that the situation may end up being worse.
When the surgery was first performed, he used permanent stitches rather then the dissolving ones. My eyes seemed fine after this, however, he had preform a second surgery to take out the permanent stitches that were used and replace them with dissolving ones since they were breaking through the surface.
Since then, I noticed that the left eye doesn’t close completely so in the morning my eye is very irritated and tearing extensively.
I have tried everything you have tried except for the saran wrap??Please advise what your surgeon advises since I believe that the doctor that performed my surgery is not very familiar with the conditions presented by Graves.
in reply to: Eye surgery #1072611I don’t know if I have a choice. My appt with the eye surgeon is tomorrow. Is there any other aspects of the surgery that I should inquire about?
in reply to: Eye surgery #1072609I am planning to have surgery for my upper lids that have retracted since I developed Graves disease. I have had my thyroid removed two years ago. In this time my eyes have not changed at all. The one eye is much worse then the other since it also has a greater lower lid retraction. For this the doctor suggested that he would take some skin from the inside of my mouth and put it on the inside of my lower lid to bring it up.
At the same time, I was considering removing the puffy area below the lower lid since it is was caused by the displacement of the fatty tissue behind the eye.
I was hoping to get some input on what others could share on this subject. This would be extremely helpfull since doctors often do not take the time to give you all the information that is involved in such a surgery such as the risk, the odds of a successful result, etc.
They seem to be like lawyers in that respect, —they get paid regardless of the outcome.
Any help, or input would be appreciated.
