in reply to: What happens right before RAI #1072179
Maybe….depending on your levels….doc is trying to avoid a thyroid storm if your really hyper right now. A good source of info is thyroidmanager.org.
I think the best positive for me was actually having a Dx…..that I wasen’t really loosing my mind…it wasen’t all in my head…..and all my symtoms weren’t from my previous stroke…brain bleed kind. There is a reason my "body" seems to have lost its’ collective mind!!! I wanted to go back to Dr’s and actually say….."I told you something wasen’t right!"
in reply to: Endo asked about Charlie Horses?? #1072307I’ve had them also…they’ve started getting lighter…I thought maybe mine were from steroids also???? Anyone else had this problem when taking steroids?
in reply to: Family Education Material #1072275One of the things that really hit home for me, my husband works 3rd shift at one of the nations retail outlets, and we were in there one evening doing some shopping. One of the cashiers, very nice lady…said.."I thought your wife was sick!"….I wanted to say thank you…that I didn’t look sick..and at the same time I wanted to scream…you have no idea how bad I feel right now. The book helped me to understand also. Thanks again!!!
in reply to: Graves and B-12 Malabsorbtion? #1072633Jake,
Question for you….last time I was checked my folic acid was low but b 12 was ok..but I read somewhere that if you take folic acid you can become low on b 12. My mom takes b 12 shots. Is this something else I should keep an eye on? Thanks RhondaThat is awesome that your MIL can come and help. I’m glad the people around you are pulling together to help you. Maybe you could ask the person that comes…here we call it a public health nurse…to check on moms and babies afterwards…maybe ask if there is a program in place…a church or something…that can also help like once a week with housework…so that MIL and hubby and MUM don’t get so worn out also. Every little bit helps. Hang in there..and your all in my prayers. Rhonda
I’m telling ya….I can totally relate. I can feel a slight depression coming on, and when that happens generally I head to the doc, cause even before all this mess, I have had bouts of depression on and off. When I feel myself start to slip, into the doc I go, cause I can’t imagine what it would do to my family if I got so bad off as to really do something about getting out of their way.
Just 2 years ago I was post partem as well. I also had post eclampsia, I fell cause I couldn’t feel the bottoms of my feet, baby was almost 3 months early, and then I had a brain bleed and a stroke, and if that wasen’t enough, I was almost 400 miles away from my home. Somehow I didn’t think I could get thru, but I have. And now I have Osteopenia and GD and a nodule on my thyroid.
I can’t imagine the "what if I could have done more" questions that would haunt my husband for the rest of his life. And how could he explain that to my two wonderful little girls…7 and 20 months? Don’t get me wrong, I have my pitty parties, when I can’t take care of my girls and feel totally helpless. I have to remind myself I didn’t ask for any of this, it’s not my fault, and if I can’t do it, cut myself some slack. I’ve had to learn to ask for help, which ain’t easy. I do what I can, when I can, but other then that I can not do. It makes it worse if I do try to do it anyway and that isen’t good for anyone, not me or my husband or my girls.
If you get really desperate, please call someone. I’ll PM you my home number, you can call anytime…as I suffer from insomnia also from the steroids for the headaches I have. Or call in some professionals. There is no shame in asking for help, especially when you are post partem. Hope this helps. Rhonda
in reply to: Newly diagnosed with GD #1072791Welcome Jo…I hope you find what you need here. It has been a great source of info for me, and at times I’m not sure what any of us would do without it…any of us newbies anyway. We have some great "parents" here that know so much about this, and if they aren’t sure, they will tell you as much, which is great. Rhonda
in reply to: If it don’t make dollars….. #1072800Buttamamma,
I’m not sure about Florida, and I live in Wyoming now, but when I lived in Arizona, they (Doctors offices) couldn’t by law refuse you your medical records, unless it was such a case like Mental Health Records where they thought reading them would adversely affect your health.I’ve read here on the boards that most people like to get and keep copies of their bloodwork levels so they know what their levels are, and can tell by their own levels what is best for them, and can communicate to their docs what levels they feel best at. Hope this helps.

in reply to: I feel so helpless #1072913You both are in my prayers. I know how helpless it seems at times when your a mom and it feels like your not helping your child.
Now for maybe some not so wonderful parenting advice. If you time it just right…..let him eat whatever he wants right before the appt with the Endo. Ask your son to aim it if he can right at doc magoo. Then maybe Doc might get a clue,
and decide to try something else that might help!!! Sometimes it helps if the problem is in their lap….literally!!!
You’re both in my prayers…and here is to good aiming!!!!

(863) 534-5304in reply to: RAI VS Surgery #1073039Can anyone tell me exactly why having surgery would make eyes worse? I don’t have any symtoms of the eye problems yet, but have had nystigmus..excuse the spelling…since before my stroke, but the stroke (brain bleed type) made it worse. I don’t have the bulging eyes, but that is probably due to the steroids they have me on for my headaches. Since I’ve had a brain bleed, I was thinking RAI would be safer for me then surgery, but now I’m really confused. I wasen’t looking forward to being away from my children for any amount of time for the RAI, but would rather be alive with bulging eyes to be around to raise my children. Any advice????
in reply to: Feeling good :-) #1073067Thanks Nancy….It’s great to hear that your having a good day….and gives Hope to the rest of us that they are a coming eventually!!!!
Does anyone know if there is a book out there that I can read to my 7 year old to explain why mommy might be more tired on some days then others? I have a 21 month old also, so I’m sure it would get used again. I asked at my endo office but they didn’t know.
Thanks Cowgirl up….I’ll ask about it…I’m kinda limited to what I can take from the brain bleed stroke I had…but will try anything at this point.
Nancy….Thank you. That put’s my mind at ease somewhat. Thanks a million.
