in reply to: back after being shut out a few years ago. #1068579Hi Mary and Welcome!!!
An idea for you….maybe have this new Dr check your vitamin levels? With Graves being a metabolic disorder, maybe your not absorbing all of your vitamins that your body might need to work right? I know on my bottle of B Complex vitamins it says metabolism support. Just a thought. Hope it helps. Rhonda
in reply to: Had a melt down tonight…. #1068537Deb,
Sorry to hear about your meltdown. I have them also, but have learned somewhat how to control them a little. Going to your room for an adult "time out" is a good way too. I like to have my 5 minute temper tantrums. I just have to do them quietly so my 8 yr old and 2yr old don’t hear me. If they have tantrums I can’t very well help them stop theirs if I’m setting the example. It does give me a sense of why they have theirs tho. I’m an adult and understand what is going on around me and why, they don’t have that ability.I hope things settle for you soon. I’ve learned a good phrase to use when I start feeling it to build…."It’s all Gravy" Sometimes stops them before they start if I can just throw my hands up in the air, and realize I can’t do all that I want to do right now. I’ll even send myself in for a nap with the 2 year old, due to not sleeping so well at night. I kinda look at it like I did when they were babies, my body is still healing. Take care Rhonda
in reply to: GD and Genetics…do we really know yet? #1068543Ski, Hmmmm yep that is helpful. Do you happen to know if they have a bloodtest to test for the gene yet? If so do you happen to know the name of the bloodtest?
Hi UofA Mom and Welcome to the board! We have a great group of people here, and more support and knowledge than I have seen on any other site.
I hope you feel free to make yourself at home here.
I’ve heard that Melatonin is a good "vitamin" to take to help with sleeping. Hope this helps. Rhonda

in reply to: Im new to the Graves Disease Foundation #1068803ANDI,
Welcome…and your not alone. I suffer from anxiety/panic attacks also. I’ve been on a beta blocker for a while, and I am on 2 anti anxiety meds. Until a few things settle I’ll be on them for a while. I am blessed in the fact that I have a really good phychiatrist..sorry my spelling is horriable…on board my team of docs, and he is familar with Graves. If you decide to call around to get an appointment with one, ask the receptionist if the Dr. has any experience with Graves patients. For me, it really was a matter of wanting to be able to funtion somewhat normally for my kids and husband. There is no shame in asking for help with a medication, and even if it is "just a surge from your thyroid" it is still very real to you and from what I have learned very common in Graves.
I’m not zoned out, and even with these meds on board, my heart rate still runs about 105 resting. Don’t let me scare you tho….I have other health problems and have to take a steroid that makes my heart rate run higher and almost induces anxiety also.
Anyway, I hope this helps, and I hope things settle for you soon. Take Care, Rhonda
in reply to: Checking in #1068844Cathy,
I wish I had that problem of not being able to wake up….well I kinda do..but my schedule is all jacked up right now from the prednisone for the Lupus. I have heard that the vitamin supplement Melatonin is good to take in the evenings before bed. It might help you sleep more deeply, and be able to wake up easier in the mornings. Yes, it is a hormone produced by our brain, which you probably already knew, but thought I’d mention it anyway. I’ve noticed that all of my hormones seem to be completely outta wack since the RAI…well really even before that when I didn’t know I had GD. So, maybe the sleepy hormone might help.Has anyone noticed that us Gravers’, when we are somewhat level…seem to have great sences of humor? Well….that and also just the slightest tone of sarcassim too… Stress….what stress…*LOL*. I love reading posts on here some days. Hugs all, Rhonda
in reply to: Checking in #1068839Glad to hear your still alive and doing relatively ok. *scratching my head* LOL….don’t know what to tell ya on that one…but glad your going good. Don’t push yourself too hard k? We want ya around for a long long time. Take care Hugs Rhonda
in reply to: RAI time frame for worsening from die off? #1069007Run,
Yep I can relate. I had my RAI at the end of April and I had 19 Milc…and my recent bloodwork shows me more hyper now then I ever was before. Hoping that the thyroid is dying off and that is why it is so high and hoping I’m having the dumping thing going on. With me it’s hard to tell. I only wish I could walk as much as you do, that would be awesome. I’m learning quick that nothing with Graves is fast. Now that I have a Lupus Dx also, I too have the " if I only would have" thing going on. Not that surgery would have been a better, quicker option, but maybe I wouldn’t be sitting here wondering if the RAI worked….I know ya know what I mean!!!!Hope things get better for you soon. Take care, Hugs Rhonda

in reply to: graves and drug abuse #1069032Hi and welcome to the board!!!
I was told once by a councelor that feeling aren’t right or wrong…they just are what we are feeling at the time. You’d be surprised by what we all share here, we don’t judge each other, just vent and share. Sometimes there are some that have been thru what your going thru or have been thru, and the pearls of wisdom you’ll gain here are great. Again….welcome!!!!
Hugs Rhonda
