I was 10 years post menopausal when I developed Graves – what a surprise! I gained weight, had insomnia, fatigue and lost muscle mass and strength (jelly legs and arms) while hyper. I’ve been on tapazol for about 6 weeks now and am feeling better – more energy, less trouble sleeping, no more palpitations – but from everything I’ve read on this forum, recovery of strength takes months and gradual, slow return to exercise is important – not to overdo trying to hurry the process. I’ve also come to understand that every case is different and can vary widely. Reading the forums and doing searches on this site has been very helpful for me and hopefully for you ,too.

Oh that weight gain! I’ve packed on 25 pounds in the last year before being diagnosed. I’m on Tapazol for about three weeks now and have noticed a reduction in appetite but no weight loss yet. It’s winter here, cold, snowy etc and I know I need to increase my activity level – skied three days this week but still no weight loss. It does get discouraging but the posts I’ve read comparing this to a marathon rather than a sprint have really helped me keep some perspective. Thank you!

in reply to: half a thyroid #1073817

Thanks for the support, Ski! It’s been helpful reading the other posts. I must fall into the mildly hyper thyroid category – no eye or goider complications but now that I’m on Tapazol about 3 weeks, I’m feeling more tired than ever. I was really hoping to get over that feeling of fatigue I had before treatment. I’ve also put on about 20 pounds in the last 9 months. I don’t have the palpitations or trouble sleeping like before, just a feeling of lethargy. And my muscles still feel like jelly. I’m concerned that I’ll continue to gain weight. I’ll get blood levels drawn in about a month and go over it with my endocrinologist. I just wish I could lose some weight and that tired feeling! Thanks for any suggestions! Pat
