be strong. gator had the same issue after OD surgery and the double vision eventually went away.
do you think the new double vision could be from the OD surgery?
hi gate,
i would like to know if this new double vision issue has been resolved, and if it, has it changed?
Throughout this process of research I am told that there are conditions in which as people age one or both of their eyes may grow SMALLER.
Also, I have been told that it is possible that after trauma to the eye 5-15 years later there can be fat atrophy causing the eye to sink back thus appearing smaller.
I am thinking the OD surgery is pretty severe trauma to the eye, so why can’t we assume that withing 5-15 years the eye will grow smaller?
hi snelsen,
i did ask him about the poking issue. he said it would feel the same as it is now.
however, i’m still quite adamant about this.
i’m thinking if you remove the bone and there is a hole, then the only thing left are the muscles. muscles are soft tissue.
so if you were to push at soft issue using your finger, there has to be give.
i don’t know.
have you poked at the side of your head with your finger? does it have resistance like it did before when the bone was still there and there is no hole?
There are several form of lateral wall decompressions.
Depending on the degree of proptosis the surgeon may:
trimmed the lateral to make it thinner
cut a hole and remove part of the lateral wall
or removed the entire lateral wall.even though i have only 1.5mm proptosis, my surgeon told me that just trimming the wall wonldn’t be enough. he would have to cut a hole and remove part of the wall
in reply to: what type of eye inflammation do you have? #1176068shirley,
i do not have graves’ disease. my proptosis is due to an injury.
in your case, is your proptosis due to fat or muscle or both?
hi rowzzr,
i am sorry to hear about your situation but i hope that your experience will help others.
I haven’t had any surgery yet so i cannot answer your question but hopefully you can answer mine.
what kind of thyroid disease do you have? fat enlargement, muscle enlargement or both? the CT Scan should tell.
how many mm of proptosis did you have on each eye pre op?
how many mm of reduction did the surgery done for each of your eyes?
do you know how many ml of fat your surgeon removed from each eye?
did you get double vision?
in reply to: fat orbital decompression #1176034when it comes to the lateral wall, i can’t imagine that you won’t be able to tell that a bone is missing. i mean, they bore a hole in the side of your skull? what happens if you were to use your hand and push against the side of your skull?
as for the fat decompression, my proptosis on my left eye is only 1.5mm.
based on the research that i have done i am getting all sorts of contrasting opinions on the fat decompression.
i have heard:
1. it depends on the surgeon’s experience and preference.
2. it depends on whether muscle enlargement or fat enlargement.
3. it depends on the amount of proptsis. if only 2-4mm, then fat decompression is enough.i have also heard that the complication rates are much lower with fat decompression, and also heard that it is higher.
in reply to: got back from consultation with surgeon #1176019that 1.5mm is causing my left eye not to close at night and it is unilateral.
no no no.
what i mean is after my eye has healed 100%. let’s say 3 years after the OD surgery and someone punch me in the eye. what would happen?
thank you shirley.
did you have lower lid retraction as well? if so, did it improve subsequently after the lateral wall removal? or did you have to do a follow up surgery to lift it up?
are you able to close your eye now, if you didn’t before the surgery.
was your surgery accurate? i.e. your eyes now match? how much reduction in each eye?
also, concerning insurance, does anyone know if there is a limit to how man doctors one can see? i’ve already seen 5 different doctors, and on the 20th i will see my 6th and final doctor.
yes i know that they are a bit sophisticated. but please answer the ones that you can.
