The orbital decompression was one of the best decisions I ever made!
in reply to: Graves Flair-up After RAI #1067012Dear Sharon,
Like Ski, I have never heard of this. A copy of your post has gone to several doctors that act as referral sources for us.
The sole function of the thyroid is to produce thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormone affects MULTIPLE organ, tissues and functions. I have looked at several of the reference books I have on hand, and still can’t find anything to corraborate the statement of the cardiologist.
It is good that you are finally better, and we will soon have a more professional/expert answer.
in reply to: Congratulations Nancy and Ski #1067523Your appreciation is very humbling. All I did was to light a torch in my own darkness…others have carried it so very far!
Take care,
in reply to: graves and adjuvanted vaccines (esp. H1N1) #1067542It has taken a few days, but I heard back from Dr. David Cooper (Baltimore). His response is quite succinct: "I’d think that the benefits of getting the vaccine far outweigh any theoretical risk."
Take care,
in reply to: graves and adjuvanted vaccines (esp. H1N1) #1067535This reply will be of little or no use to you: I know nothing about the un-adjuvanted or adjuvanated vaccines. I will copy this and send it to a couple of our doctors, who WILL know what you are talking about.
In the meantime, wash your hands (every time you touch anyone) and stay away from crowds. Use common sense, and stay in touch. I hope that James, our facilitator from Canada will read this post and reply to you.
Take care,
in reply to: Taping Eyes #1067566These are two large outpatient distributors (meaning "we" can order our own)
Here are the phone numbers:1. Mercy Surgical 800-637-2950
2. Edgepark Surgical 800-321-0591I have only called one of them. The cost is about $25.00 per box, plus reasonable postage. It is also the same price as I was paying to purchase it in Sweden, where it is manufactured.
This lasts at least three times longer than a month’s supply of the eye patches I used to wear. The Mepitac tape does not irritate or pull your skin
in reply to: Taping Eyes #1067565YES! I have the phone numbers for two places. Unfortunately, they are at my office, but I will post them for you. Mepitac is WONDERFUL! I have introduced it to several eye surgeons who are very pleased with it.
in reply to: Methimazole: trying to get to maintenance dose … #1067780I know the results of being on anti-thyroid medication can be much quicker than anything else, but I don’t think one day is enough, and I don’t think eight weeks is the outer limit. What did your doctor say when you called? I realize this isn’t much help, but if your labs are that much off, it sounds like it needs much closer moitoring by your doctor.
Take care,
in reply to: Is it possible…? #1067813Yes. It is called Hashitoxicosis. I will try to get a better explanation at the conference. Most of the inforation when you Google it is not necessarily from reliable sources.
Take care,
in reply to: Hi!! New Here #1067823Thanks for another good report on RAI! Welcome aboard.
Take Care,
What a great, generous and thoughtful idea! Have you had anyone take you up on your offer?
Take care,
in reply to: Going into surgery next week! #1067862Dear Bishop,
I can’t address everything, but I can tell you a few things:
The plugs in your eyes are comfortable, easy to plae, and can be removed.Their purpose is to keep your tears on your corneas, rather than have them running off. The burning is from exposure.
It is the SMOKE that is bad for you, and yes, patches are fine. I will ask at the conference if the other question about nicotine is a factor.
DO NOT do "cosmetic" surgery on your eyes. While there is a cosmetic benefit, the purpose of surgery is to preserve the integrity of your corneas. They are done in a specific sequence, and only done AFTER your eyes enter the "cold phase".
Send me a regular e-mail, and I will attach some information back to you. Where do you live?
You will have more replies to your post, I am sure.
Take care,
in reply to: RAI question #1067850It does come in liquid. Just remind them that you can’t swallow pills.
Good luck and take care,
in reply to: RAI in two weeks… #1067853I won’t repeat what Ski wrote, but I will tell you that my RAI was successful. The only thing I remember is that it was 8 millicures. I left work at lunch, had the treatment (being in the lead-lined room was wierd), and going back to the office for four or five more hours of therapy. I didn’t cuddle my cats, and my husband stayed on his side of the bed, and that was it. I worked the rest of the week.
You may find that your fear is MUCH worse than getting the treatment–it was really anti-climactic (sp)
Take care,
in reply to: H1N1 vaccination #1067925We can certainly bring this up at the conference–get expert opinions.
