in reply to: RAI time frame for worsening from die off? #1069003
Lacie,
It does take longer than three weeks. No one is going to be thinking about doing anything different for at least six months. If your pulse is really getting out of hand, then your doctor will prescribe something to help yor heart not have to work so hard (one of the beta-blockers). You need to ASK, and this is a time that your graphs will be very useful.
Ask your doctor about the twenty-plus miles you are walking right now. That sounds like it would be really hard on your muscles, heart and breathing. Think about it, and give yourself a chance to recover and heal. Others are giving you that advice as well.
Take care,
My goodness, that is impressive! It certainly does describe the Graves’ Foundation–our entire purpose in the beginning. Now we have added to our purpose: Trying to find the cause and a cure, but we never will lose that sense of circling together, connecting our storiesto one another.
This happens nowhere more than at the Conference.
Thanks so much for sharing this ~Take care,
in reply to: elevated liver enzymes? #1069042What does your doctor say> Are you on Tapezole or PTU? Were you taken off?
in reply to: Hi, everyone! I’m the new facilitator. #1069065I have had the privilege of knowing Ellen for about 15 years. She was a wealth of information at the TFA, and is extemely knowledgable about resources, as well information about Graves’ I am so excited (as well as honored) to have her with the GDF.
in reply to: More Hyper 3 months post RAI #1069017Rhonda,
What are your symptoms? if they are severe, your doctor will probably put you on something to carry you over.
When the thyroid is treated with RAI, the cell walls that are storing hormone are disintegrating, and that stored hormone "floods’ your system. If the RAI didn’t do its job, you might (not necessarily, though) end up having a second dose of RAI. That is unusual, but not at all unheard of.
It might be useful to keep a record of symptoms (# of hours slept, pulse rate, etc) for your doctor. Call Monday if you aren’t settling down…or, call today. Good Luck!
in reply to: Lupus Board as good as this one??? #1069076I don’t know of one, but I think there is a Lupus Foundation of America. They should have one, and that usually means that there are experienced people, trained moderators, and a medical board. And all of that combined means that there is accountability and credibility. Good luck, and thanks for the compliment!
in reply to: Radioactive Iodine prep #1069125I have heard of this. The context I know of it is to "protect" your eyes from any stimulation of the antibodies that affect your eyes. Ask your endocrinologist–that’s a reasonable question.
Two weeks of Prednisone is tolelrable, even if not fun by the end of the two weeks. You will be tapered off.
in reply to: Hey GD family – I’m feeling better :) #1069091Thanks for the update. Lots of us were really concerned for you over the weekend. Isn’t it amazing how quickly things can resolve when your levels are normalizing!
Heartfelt thankfulness for you!
in reply to: Synthroid or Anxiety ???? #1069083Check your levels. The period of time that I did this I went to the dentist and got a bite guard. I wore it at night for several months (but less than a year), and it went away sometime during that time. I was on Synthroid for several years before that happened, and am still on it.
in reply to: Fields Test #1069105The field of vision test is one of those things that it is good to have a baseline for thryoid eye disease.
I am going to delete your first post, just to only have one.
Ordinarily, we don’t post, or recommend specific doctors. Mayo Clinic is world-reknowned, that’s for sure, and several of their doctors were on our former Medical Advisory Board. You can call the foundation office, or e-mail me at "nancyngdf.org"
YOu can look up either doctor on their websites, and/or look them up by their names. What you want to know is how long they have been doing this? How many of these do they do in a year? Fifty is great, two is ‘way insufficient. If you e-mail me, I can attach some information about eye surgeries.
in reply to: Very weird dreams since ive been on synthroid. #1069327I promised to locate the side effects:
Common Reactions
palpitations
appetite incr.
tachycardia
nervousness
tremor
weight loss
diaphoresis
diarrhea
abdominal cramps
insomnia
fever
headache
alopecia
heat intolerance
menstrual irregularities
nausea
anxietyThat doesn’t mean we DON’T have wierd dreams. Maybe it’s just the thyroid hormone level, not the brand?
in reply to: Very weird dreams since ive been on synthroid. #1069324Are any of you taking something for sleep? One of the side effects of many of them is "vivid dreams". I will look up Synthroid and see if that is one of the side effects. I don’t recall ever reading that–but that doesn’t mean a thing. Between memory and double vision, I miss a lot of things.
If anyone wants to start it, we could do a post on describe your wierd dreams. I have a couple that were doozies. Mostly I don’t remember them.
in reply to: Swine Flu effects on Graves #1069279The absolute best defense against any communicable disease is to wash your hands–FREQUENTLY! Soap and water is the best. Wash for the length of time it takes to sing "Old MacDonald", "Happy Birthday" or "Yankee Doodle" and rinse and dry. I don’t know the songs in Australia, but maybe "Happy Birthday" in international.
in reply to: Help ! Work Issues from Eye Issues #1069283I had punctal plugs done years ago. I say "done" rather than "placed", because that was how it ws done in "the olden days". I hear the new procedures are comfortable. Mine worked, and are working, well. I have never regrettedit. They have not kept me from needing eye drops as well, but they are a good option for helping along the way.
As to informing your company…I would think you almost would NOT be able to keep it a secret. At least go to HR. Much depends on how large your company is. as to what they are required to do by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Where I work (in a Hospice/Home Health situation), they have gotton me an oversized monitor, and recently ordered me a larger laptop. .
I hope Jake sees this and responds. H knpows a lot about the ADA. I know there was information in the Archives, but I alsoknow it is very difficult to navigate. We are working on that.
