Sorry for the long delay in a update. It’s a good thing though, I feel awesome!! I’ve never felt better. I’m on 100mcg synthroid and that’s got me theraputic. I didn’t have to do RAI b/c my tumor was so small. So instead they are going to monitor my thyroglobulin levels to monitor the cancer.
One interesting think with follow-up appt’s and path reports, they think that I had Graves, Hashi’s and Thyroid Cancer. So it was a good thing it’s gone <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” />

    Hi Ashley!

I had my thyroid removed on 8/18. I’ve never felt better. Recovery was not to bad. The day of surgery and after was uncomfortable, but it was managable. The biggest headache for me was having limited movement of my neck for about 1 1/2 weeks. Looking in you blind spot while driving wasn’t possible for me. I also did a week of a softer diet. Swallowing felt really different for me, and sometimes still does. I have about a two inch scar on my neck that is healing nicely, still red on some days. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions. you can also email me at nmasay(at)hotmail.com. Good luck! Keep us updated.

You could always come to primary childrens hospital in Salt Lake. I know it’s probably a long drive, but I know of lots of people that come from afar for medical attention. You could also look in Arizona or Las Vegas. One of my nursing school prof. works in the endo clinic at Primarys would you like me to see of anyone in your area he might know about?

Another one i thought of….Thyroid 101. I think it would be great to have an anatomy and physiolog lesson on the thyroid and what it does for our body.

    I second the complementary medicine.
As well and stress/coping skills also things to deal with anxiety. Mine is worse since GD.
Exercise and strengthing. What you can do while you can’t exercise (i.e. when levels are high) and what do to for strengthening your muscles.

Hi there. I also have two little kids and was diagnosed when my second was 4 months old. I think the best thing to do with husbands is that thank them often. I’m lucky in the fact my husband will cook, clean and do the laundry  . He deals with it much better if I show a lot of appreciation and do as much as I can do. Good luck, hth.

in reply to: sed rate? #1071509

it’s probably high because our thyroids are somewhat inflamed. Just an idea.

    Emily,
I feel the exact same way. I was switched from PTU to Methimazole and I’m still not normalized after 6 weeks. For me, PTU worked much faster, but I couldn’t stand the taste. Someone told me that it took them 4 months :O to normalize in the labs. Unfortunately it takes patience, of which I have none. I hope you get some relief soon.

The sed rate is the rate the red blood cells (RBC’s) settle. And increased rate can be indicative of some inflammatory process.

ATD’s do have the side effect of a depressed immune system. Have you had a CBC drawn lately? But you’d want this drawn after you’ve recovered from whatever illness you have.
