Hi I’m new to the site but not to graves. I was diagnosed in sept 07 and had RAI in Nov. I was able to go back to work that day. Slept by myself and no close contact to anyone for a few days. It was about a week before I could hug my nieces and nephews. I also had to sign a paper saying that I wouldn’t have children for a year. I started going Hypo in January and the Endo has been modifying my Synthroid ever since. It wasn’t that bad for me. I hope that gives you a little info. If I remember correctly when I went to the hospital to talk about the tests and such they said I could have a thyroid storm after it started dieing off. I was fortunate and didn’t have one. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I was diagnosed in Sep 2007, had the RAI in Nov 2007 and went hypo in January 2008. I go to the DR every 6 months with new lab work, was 3 months, but my medicine has been changed every time. I was up to 150 and she moved me down to 137 recently. I felt better on the 150 than the 125, but I’m back to the being tired, and not wanting to do anything. It seems to take every ounce of energy I have some days to hold my head up. And talking about needing lists, I seem to have the worst memory ever now. It gets frustrating and I just wonder how long it will take for this to stop or will it?

I was diagnosed with Graves 3 years ago and have struggled with ups and downs. The TED has become worse over the past year and I am looking into surgery. The surgeon told me to quit smoking and why. I had read things about it and the Endo. told me that I needed to quit, but with no explanation. Anyone who smokes knows how difficult it is to quit. But I called my Dr today and they have called me a prescription of Chantix into the pharmacy. I had quit previously for 6 months by using that. And the weird thing is that about a month after I started smoking again is when this whole mess started. I’m told that it didn’t have anything to do with it, but I’m thinking it did. I wondered how it would make a difference with the disease and you have helped me with that. Thank you.
