    Pat1953,

I would think this was a tonometry test for glaucoma. Did you feel pressure in your eye during the test? A normal result means your eye pressure is within 10 – 21.

My RAI dosage was 10.9 mci. They did not meassure the uptake afterwards.

My normal uptake a month before the RAI was ~46%.

I have read it takes longer for men to work, because there are some differences in our tissue…

    Take care all

We are all in this together…

    Hello enough3,

I am still hyper like you… Aren’t you glad you are not alone???

It has been almost 2 months since the RAI treatment. I do labs almost every 3-4 weeks. Not much has changed. My TSH is still very low (below the range) and the FT3, FT4 within range but at the high end.

I still have fast heart rate. Without the beta blockers (50mg metoprolol / day) my heart runs in the 110-120bpm. With the beta blockers, I am usually in the 85-95. Still high in my opinion.

    I continue taking tapazole, now 15mg /day (3 dosages of 5mg every 8 hrs).

Can’t wait for this to stabilize… I am tired of it…

    I have now lost 30lb since August…

    Good luck to you

Just wanted to give an update on how things are going for me so far. Today I am day 14 (2 weeks) post RAI. I had a couple of days of hyperactivity (during the 1st week), but nothing more that the usual graves symptoms we experience all the time.

My weight is stable (added 2lb so far), heart rate in the mid 70s-80s, BP 125/70 and respiration rate normal at 18.

I am still on Metoprolol (25mg/day) and Tapazole (10mg/day) – same dose from before the RAI. Will have a follow up labs for the first time post RAI next week. I expect to see a slight improvement with TSH moving higher based on the way I feel.

So far I have not experienced any salivary gland dysfunction, thyroid pain, eye problems or any new symptoms.

No dumping so far either, let’s hope this will continue the same way long term. I will keep you posted.

    Meredith hi,

Did they perform any additional tests (FT3/FT4/antibodies) or just the TSH?
Some people believe It is important if possible to test at the same time every time you get tested.

    Good luck

    Dream2BFree,

Good luck with the RAI. I am on the second week myself after the procedure.

Different labs have different reference values, you should be able to find the information for UK online or by calling your health care provider.

    Good luck

Yes it is scary but thyroid cancer patients receive much higher dosages.

    Good luck

I was told that I would only need to be in isolation for about 20 minutes following the treatment, and shouldn’t be around many people for 3 days. But I just read about someone who was alone for a week. Can I hear from others what their length of isolation was. I also am a teacher and worry about how I will feel immediately after. Should I wait until school is out. Help, please!

    Lucy,

Some studies suggest to follow at least the distance limitations for a min of 3 days, and for a week sleep in a seperate bed, use a different bathroom and avoid any contact with children and pregnant women. These studies are avaliable online.

    Good luck

There are several research papers and studies with the information you are looking.

    Best of luck

    Hi Sallie,

I hope you feel better today. I feel very tired myself (Day 4 after RAI), though I am now hyper (Resting HR @ 90bpm).

Hyper symptoms combined with a very high resting heart rate (it depends on the individual but usually over 125bpm) and fever over 101F may indicate thyroid storm. It is a rare condition; however it can happen after RAI administration during the dumping period if there was already too much hormone stored in the thyroid before the RAI treatment.

However, it is possible to have a nasty cold, or the flu, or a virus and still have high heart rate and a fever, so it can be tricky to figure out what is going on.

You can call a nurse line and ask questions, though in my experience they will almost always tell you to call your doctor or go to the ER if there are any cardiovascular symptoms since they do not want any liability.

    It may be Hypocalcemia.

    Hi everyone.

Well I am done with it. Friday I had my RAI treatment. It was prescribed at 10mci, however, after I got a copy of all paperwork from the hospital I realized they gave me 10.9mci instead. I am not sure why there was a difference.

After I took the pill I asked them to measure me with a Geiger counter and at 6 feet I was measured at 10 Rads. It was similar with what you see in the movies (High-pitch crackly sounds).

I have been in home isolation for now, but I feel well so far.

    Hi,

I am in the same boat with you. Have been in remission 3 times over the last 10 years and I am ready for the RAI.
