in reply to: Having Surgery in two weeks, and am nervous!! #1073418
I just had my thyroidectomy on January 20th. I went to the endocrinologist today and for the first time in 3 years I’M ALMOST NORMAL! I understand your fear about the surgery. However, I’ve had quite a few surgeries and this was, by far, the easiest. I was scheduled to go back to work after 2 weeks. I ended up having an allergic skin reaction to the cleanser they used prior to surgery so that moved my return to work date back a week. But honestly, the surgery was not bad at all. I think a few days with some help since you can’t lift anything greater than 10 lbs and you will be feeling terrific. I had the RAI twice and it failed.
in reply to: Graves and Stomach Issues? #1074898I had a very similar experience. I was diagnosed with Graves 23+ years ago. Had RAI twice, the most recent 1-1/2 years ago. For some unknown reason, I am an unusual case and my thyroid has regenerated again. I will be having a thyroidectomy in January. I also developed eye disease related to the Graves which is annoying. But this past October, I began having difficulty with my stomach. It escalated until I was literally writhing in pain over the entire right side of my abdomen and back, the entire torso. After many tests, one doctor believes it’s Crohn’s, one thinks it’s not and I’ll be going for a 3rd opinion soon. I am very interested to read more about your diagnosis and whether that may be something I’ve been dealing with.
in reply to: Choosing Thyroidectomy on Purpose #1075725Thank you Rachel for posting your success with surgery. I have to wait until Jan for mine. A complication that has arisen and I think that it has been wrapped up with the thyroid issues for years is I was just diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease also. So back on the Prednisone (yuck, yuck and more yuck) and more medications. I really hope this stabilizes prior to Jan! So not only do I have diarrhea from being hyper at the moment, I have explosive diarrhea and pain that doubles me over in the midst of a Crohn’s bout! How did I get so lucky getting 2 auto immune diseases?
