I have only been on MMI since this past Sept. I don’t have a endo(fired him). So me and my GP have been teaching each other. I’m sure my TSI is still there, but I haven’t had it tested since the summer, but I do plan to retest here shortly.
If my levels don’t come up with this regiment, I may have to give a quick lesson to my GP about block and replace lol.
in reply to: Just curious about RAI #1177963Quote:This is misinformation. Only certain types of radiation are cumulative. Are you speaking of ionizing or non-ionizing? Alpha, Beta, Black Body, Delta, ELF, Electromagnetic, Gamma, Infrared, Microwave, Neutron, Thermal, Ultraviolet, VLF, X? (Many of these we are constantly exposed to on a daily basis without even knowing it. Welcome to life on planet Earth.)
As the title says – Just curious about RAI. which is Iodine-131 a radioactive isotope of iodine. Ionizing radiation is Alpha, Beta, Gamma and x-ray. RAI has both beta and gamma.
Quote:To make such a blanket statement is irresponsible and plays on people’s fears of the unknown. This does not make a supportive environment for patients wanting real information.Wouldn’t it had been nicer to ASK how I go the information instead of assuming I was wrong?
Quote:Perhaps you should look further into your “skin crawling” research and make definitive statements instead of all encompassing half truths. If you have not researched that far, please refrain from making these bold assertions.Again, Wouldn’t it had been nicer to ASK how I go the information instead of assuming I was wrong?
Quote:Okay enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I have opted for RAI and when the times comes, I’m doing it.
There is nothing wrong with this decision, I only want an open and honest discussion about RAI But, you don’t need to yell at me.
Quote:Will I get cancer? who knows? There are so many things that cause cancer, we are all sitting ducks and one thing is for sure, WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE. Guaranteed. I bet on it.This is why I HAD SAID:
But what I will say is, Yes you may get cancer, You may not get cancer. Then again you may or may not get into a car accident if you don’t wear your seatbelt. Or you may or may not kill someone if you drive drunk.
Kimberly, I am a little bit confused why you posted what you did. This thread is to discuss RAI. Not all three treatment options. And I did not mention ATD’s being the better treatment option. But hey, I see how it is, people can discuss surgery at length, or ATD’s but no one can have a open conversation about RAI – BOTH GOOD AND BAD.
I am currently taking 1.25mg every second day. My labs are in normal range but low.
in reply to: Just curious about RAI #1177956Oh to add to the above – They have been wrong many many times before.
One thing that comes to mind is DDT’s. Did you know they insisted this was safe, so safe their marketing had commercials where they would hang up wallpaper in children’s rooms using it among other examples.
Use of radiation has been controversial since they used in salons for hair removal.
in reply to: Just curious about RAI #1177955I was quite curious because of how many new people ask, and for most part they never get an answer. It is almost as if people are afraid of the ‘C’ word, or perhaps they just don’t know.
I suppose the way I look at it is – I have done enough research on this subject to make someone’s skin crawl, countless studies and research. I know radiation is cumulative, it stays with you forever. I know RAI not only effects the thyroid but iodine concentrates in also gastric mucosa, salivary glands, mammary glands, choroid plexus, ovaries, placenta. So it is not necessarily the thyroid that can get the cancer, but there are a higher number or breast and stomach cancers.
But what I will say is, Yes you may get cancer, You may not get cancer. Then again you may or may not get into a car accident if you don’t wear your seatbelt. Or you may or may not kill someone if you drive drunk.
But suppose they are wrong, wouldn’t it be the prudent thing to do is error on the side of caution?
in reply to: Few things to help you feel better. #1175506We do have fluoride in our water where I am at. Last I heard, the Canadian Government wanted to remove 95% of fluoride from drinking water by 2010. Not sure if they managed that or not.
But your right, it is a controversy here as well and the US. I am guessing it is due to the fact we were told years ago that we needed this in our water, I suppose one would say – evidence-based medicine.
And to be honest, I really didn’t give it a second thought until I got GD. I mean, I always thought fluoride to be a natural mineral and found out it is not. Years and years ago, they used to use fluoride to treat hyperthyroidism.
Your right though, fluoride is bad for your thyroid.
@ChristinaDe
You don’t need to be an attorney to state the obvious.Quite frankly, I feel there is a lot of ‘bulling’ going on here.
in reply to: I Stopped Tapazole #1177778Ah ok, cause I was thinking about you paying that outrageous price for your test. Maybe that is why it is so expensive? I mean, the $95 price I got was for TSI only.
in reply to: Just curious about RAI #1177947I know the link Kimberly and yes it has useful information in it, that is not what I asked. I wanted to know why people don’t talk about it…
in reply to: I Stopped Tapazole #1177776I see. I was just curious on why not the TRAb since it does 3 tests and TBII does 2. btw, yes I do know what the tests are, I was just curious on why you were getting that particular one done.
in reply to: I Stopped Tapazole #1177774I am a little confused Kimberly, you said,
Quote:…and my lab actually uses the one labeled TBII.TRAb measures Graves’ antibodies including TSI and TBII.
It is my understanding these are different antibodies.
- TSI stimulates hormones.
- TBII blocks hormones and suppress TSH.
So why are you just getting TBII test done and not the other?
I did read it before it was removed.
I’m sorry, but I have to side with mslux on this one.
And I’ll explain why.
She spent her time and effort to write a very thought out post. Stating how doctors were treating her, she cited plenty of evidence to base her facts on.
She knows this is graves related and was looking for answers on how ‘we’ graves patients deal with it.
She only wanted affirmation from other people, more than likely to put her mind at ease. YET…
Kimberly you basically slapped her in the face with “…other underling issues, perhaps you need to see a different doctor…” (sorry can’t remember the exact wording)
You basically said she had cognitive issues from something OTHER than graves.
So either you were not paying attention to the post, or you do believe it to be caused from something other than graves.
And yes, you do this quite often.
in reply to: Anybody have this? #1177706Kimberly, this is why I used the words:
- Most
- Usually
As I said, as you normalize on ATD’s, for most, the eye issues will improve because your TSI is lowering.
