    Amberg84 –

Glad to connect with you on this site. I am 32 years old and was just diagnosed with Graves this summer, after a successful IVF twin pregnancy. We do not know why I was not able to get pregnant on my own. My thyroid levels were all normal pre-IVF. My Graves was diagnosed while we began workups for another round of IVF to try to conceive baby #3.

I had little to no symptoms and would never even have been diagnosed if we had not be TTC. In July, my MD said treatment was optional. We held off on treatment and completed a frozen embryo transfer, which resulted in a chemical pregnancy (or very early miscarriage). After that my thyroid levels were again tested and I was "subclinically hyperthyroid" meaning that although my TSH was <.01, T3 and T4 were normal. We attempted a fresh IVF cycle and again the result was a chemical pregnancy.

I am heading back to my endocrinologist this afternoon to discuss treatment options prior to trying to conceive at this time. It is helpful to hear others have had successful pregnancies with Graves. I know my endo is pushinig for surgery (RAI is not an option for me with little ones in the home). I am hoping we can proceed as long as my levels are under control with meds. Surgery seems to radical to me given I feel fine.

I am curious as to know your doctor’s thoughts about TTC while I anti-thyroid meds? Is he/she pushing for RAI or surgery for you?

    -Aimee
