i guess my point after re-reading my last post is that i am not sure if it is such a good idea to just look at the TSH to see if you are on the correct dose of thyroid hormone (yet). I definately am not ready to go that route. Anyone out there have input regarding this?

thanks for the all the help and support here!

Not sure how to get this out of my mouth this morning, but i believe there is a lag from when your Free T3 and Free T4 settle after adjusting your meds to when your TSH settles, i think it will be around 4-6 weeks difference to be on the safe side. i am a few weeks ahead of you these days and am watching my Frees along with the TSH. And, i am not going to just look at TSH alone to see how if i am on the correct dose until my Frees look good and my TSH looks good as well for at least a couple of months.

My opinion is that posts are never too long because many folks are diagnosed with Graves every day and our experiences help them out. Keep on goin!

    Best wishes!

I agree with Shirley. The nuclear med department where i got my RAI made me sign a form with all the post RAI instructions, and then i went a little above and beyond their recommendations as a precaution for my animals.
I think that where you are going to get this done is your best bet.

Good luck Nikki! Remember, you are currently ill and this process does take time, so be patient.
I do know that you will get better and be able to live a full life! <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” />

Yeah! i am happy to hear that you are hanging in there and doing better with the meds. Be prepared for ups and downs along the way. This does take some time.

I am also happy to hear that your got some meditation Cds from the library, they can also be very helpful when you get stressed or have anxiety during the days!!!

Keep us informed. it is great to hear from folks during this process, so many more of us can hear about it!

all my best to everyone out there going thru GD! Remember, You will get better!!!

it has been a few months since my own RAI. I seem to remember that doctors recommend that you not get/or get anyone (in my case) pregnant for a year after RAI. Maybe someone can verify this for you.

We all know what you are going thru these days… hang in there because you will get thru this!!! Yoga, deep breathing, walking outside and getting some sun…these are just a couple of practices that helped me quiet my mind during my journey.
    Best wishes!

Wow is right. Looks like you fell off the cliff and are more than ready to start the titration process. You will get through this, but be patient…the process doesn’t happen overnight and it is best to start and move through this slowly. You are on the right track and will get there in time!!!

    best of luck!

I agree with Kimberly. I started on my replacement meds before my TSH moved from being suppressed. My Free T4 and Free T3 went below the range and my endo started me on a small dose of armour. 2 months later, my TSH went above the normal range the lab uses, but i was glad that i didn’t wait that long to start this titration process.

    good luck!

    Rushed,
It is great to hear of your progress. Still be patient with the titration period, you are a few weeks behind me, and your non-symptoms of sleeping better and not losing weight will continue to get better. i have been able to sleep through the night for the first time since, wow, i have no idea when i was able to sleep thru the night before. And the dreams!! Yes, they seem to come back a little strongly. Not sure if that is a med induced thing or not, are you on any thyroid hormones yet? And for your information, i do not feel the hypo symptoms are as extreme as the hyper.

Good luck, keep doing what you are doing! and still be patient with the next step, you will be happy you are!

Well, it sounds like you are going thru the ringer after RAI. Please be patient and know that these symptoms will get better in time. Personally, i was more HYPER for almost 3 months after my RAI on May 6th. This is not necessarily a bad thing, today i am much better. i believe that you recieved a large dose of r131 and this will get you to where you want to be, again in time. Keep up on your blood tests and keep copies to refer to because you can drop off a cliff when the time is right and go HYPO very quickly, again this is what happened to me, but since i kept up on my blood work, i was able to go onto Armour thyroid hormones before the HYPO came on very strongly.
I found that deep breathing exercises and a little Qi-gong helped me manage my mental state throughout this time, i could not do much more than that, and that was difficult. Are you on a beta blocker to help protect your heart? anti-anxiety?
make sure to take care of yourself while you are going thru this, whatever that may be for you. and you are not alone, keep talking to people here and everywhere. Do not hold the stress this is putting on you inside.

    Best wishes!

i have been thru the ride of a lifetime with Graves disease. the ultimate goal is to be balanced in body, mind and spirit for myself, and that is not accomplishable either Hyper or Hypo. With being Hyper, my body and heart were wasting away, along with my mind and my spirituality, i also lost myself along the way. it is amazing how much you can lose when you are not paying attention, and i mean that these changes in the body, mind, and spirit occur slowly, so they can be hard to be aware of.
i went through the RAI on may 6th of this year, which was a very hard decision for myself to make, and as of last Monday, i am officially Hypo!! and looking to up my dose of Armour to balance out those hormones within the body. My body has calmed down from being so hyper, my mind has calmed down, and i am living in the present and looking to the future again.

if you had to choose, i would choose Hypo over being Hyper, but neither of these will really let you live your life fully.

    best of luck

Just wanted to let you know that it took over 3 months before my labs started to retreat downward. Be patient with this, it does get better and you will be happy that you were patient. It is great that you have taken up yoga and are stretching, clearing your mind and breathing, keep it up! this has saved me! Remember the rest and sleep also help the body to heal.

    Caitlin,
I’m not sure anything is really all that stress free when it comes to a career, especially these days, but i was thinking that maybe your school could help you out a little with everything. it has been a few years since i was in college, but if you let them know of what you are going thru medically, maybe they can or your teacher/s will offer to work with you with the whole school schedule thing or offer extra time to help you out.
i am doing well today, thanks for your concern!and this does get better.

Good luck and keep talking! don’t hold this inside

    Caitlan,
I sure sounds like you have a lot going on in your life with school and living life!!! and being ill:( And please remember that you are ill Are you taking time out to pamper yourself? something to try to reduce stress in your life? How is your breathing? And always feel free to talk here! You are not alone on this journey.
My RAI was on May 6th and the biggest help that i have found is to take time out for myself everyday i can. meditate, do some yoga or Qi-gong, exercise, sit in the forest or by the river, get some sunshine!!! or whatever may help you. This really helps reduce the stress and overwhelmed feelings in my life that GD has caused, and i always feel better.
    What are you studying?

    Best Wishes
    Milton
