    Hi hyperm,

Thank you so much for your reply, you’ve explain how I’m feeling perfectly….I seem to be doing anything I can not to swallow as the sensation justs feels too weird. I keep feeling like I’m filling up with liquid too, and start gurgling, takes me ages to clear out what ever it is sitting in there…Why can’t they tell you this sort of thing before the Operation. The shock was that I was expecting a partial thyroidectomy and ended up with a full one…aparently it was too enlarged and was crushing all the other stuff so they decided to take the lot. So instead a little scar I have one the whole width of my neck…(sorry i’m moaning and I know I shouldn’t be, at least I’m here).

I only got diagnosed with Graves in May this year, but I’ve been in and out of hospital constantly..due to collasping. my consultant said I was one of the unfortunate ones that everything was at the extreme end of the scale. So I suppose I’m expecting to much from myself maybe too soon.

I’m not normally one for self pity but boy do I feel sorry for myself right now! part of me keeps thinging I was better off with the thyroid at least I knew what I was dealing with, Now i’m thryoidless and people are wondering why i’m not back to the old me. I have comments made that I still seem quite hyper at work, my family thinks I should be up and cleaning at home by now, and I’m left feeling totaly useless….On top of that My husband has just been diagnosed with depression due to the stress of me being ill……So no money for xmas…another worry. OH god I’m whinning So Sorry…

I’m trying to hold on to the positives of all this, I can only think of one at the moment that’s i’m still here. I’m sure I will think of more as the days go on…..

    Hi Justin,

I’m fairly new to GD, I have only been on the medication since June. I had blood test results back in april 09 showing a problem with my thyroid, my gp felt i need to be seen urgently but my hospital appointment was made for beginning of June 09, however i was rushed into hospital in may with tyroid crisis (storm) and was then told I had Graves Disease and to take my meds that was it. I was so relieved to find this site that had answers to all the questions i had, and eveyone was so helpful. I am currently still working full time and trying to juggle my job, housework and four children which leave me exhausted. I find myself growling at my children and on somedays not even interacting with them yet I love unconditionaly. It is hard to try to explain to a love’d one why your happy one day and moody the next.
My husband and i have just recently got back together, and he has been finding dealing with me stressful as he didn’t understand it either.
When i went for my follow up appointment I took him with me and he was able to ask my consultant all the questions that he had. He found it really helpful and felt that he had been included into what was happening with me. Maybe you should suggest to Christi to go with you so she can get the answers she needs.

I wish you luck, and hope she realises what she has with you x

    Regards
    Michelle

    Hi Ski,
Thank you so much for the information you gave me.. it has helped me to understand more of what my body is going through.
I was told about side affects to look out for but not why to look out for them so Thank you for that information.. I have to say i have been quite cross with not being able to understand what is happening to me.
I saw the hospital consultant this morning and was told my thyroid is smooth, and that my thyroid level of 70 is extemly high (is it?) and that i was to carry on with the high dosage of meds for a while longer. he asked if i was having an problems with my eyesight and not to worry as i didn’t smoke so there wouldn’t be a problem. I have to say i felt like i was one of those fakers who waste time..
I know this is vain but i also asked if my weight could be maintained, but was told no it would go back up to where is was. Is there any kind of diet i can follow to maintain my weight.. i keep thinking of not taking the meds so i don’t put weight on,( i know this is silly and i should be more concerned with my health).

This site has been a blessing to me, i know i’m not alone with this..
